Update: Mick Fleetwood's Daughter Nearly Drowns in Family Pool

Update: Mick and his family have released the following statement to clarify the accident that led to daughter Ruby‘s trip to the hospital, saying that she "was doing somersaults in the pool, became disoriented, and must have swallowed a high quantity of water," not doing cartwheels around the pool.  Dr. Keith Kimble, attending staff at the Cedars-Sinai Pediatric Intensive Care Unit where Ruby is being held, stated that she was "the victim of an accident that is potentially extremely serious, but she is doing quite well and the medical staff here at Cedars is optimistic that she will make a full recovery."

Originally posted at 11:15 am: Fleetwood Mac’s drummer Mick Fleetwood, 61, almost experienced every parent’s worst nightmare on Friday afternoon — the loss of a child.  TMZ is reporting that Mick’s 6-year-old daughter was doing cartwheels around the family’s pool at their Calif. home, hit her head and fell in the water.  Emergency services were called and on the way to a local hospital, the little girl was revived by paramedics and is reported to have made a full recovery.

omg that’s horrible…thank god she’s okay though…i can’t imagine how scary that must have been

Where did this actually happen?

- phoebe on

thank goodness her parents were smart enough to be right there. Still, I wouldn’t approve of doing cartwheels by the pool.

- Kat on

Yes, I agree with Kat, it was a pretty daft thing to allow a child to do that near a body of water, but thank God mum and/or dad were nearby. I doubt the little girl (I don’t know her name) will be allowed to do something that silly again! Best wishes to the family.

I have a pool and two girls that LOVE the water…I won’t even leave them outside while I grab something inside even while I can see them the entire time, I just don’t want to tempt the hands of fate! I am thankful that someone was around so that his daughter survived…a reality check from hell but she has survived, she was in the hands of her angel!

- nicole on

BTW, my children are NEVER in the pool without an adult, I didn’t want you to think I left them in the water alone!

- nicole on

Mick Fleetwood has 4 daughters, two (adult) from his first marriage to Jenny Boyd named Amy Rose and Lucy and twins from his fourth marriage- Ruby Mim and Tessa Kells. It could’ve been Ruby or Tessa. But I’m glad that she’s all right! Very close call and God bless her!

- Jeannette on

Pheeww!!! That’s what you call a very close call!!! Glad to hear that she’s okay.

- Diane on

Thank god she will be ok.

ET says Ruby was doing somersaults in the pool during a playdate and was found unconscious but is going to be okay.

In Australia, there’s a song I think of everytime I hear something like this: “fence the pool, shut the gate. Teach your kids to swim, it’s great. Supervise -watch your mate, and learn how to resuscitate.”

There’s a ‘Keep kids alive, do the five’ program that encourages parents to teach their kids the mimed actions to the song. Silly, but it gets stuck in your head.

- Lilybett on

Kinda makes me glad that here in Australia childproof pool-fencing in compulsory.

- mel on

Glad to hear this child will be okay.

It’s important to remember that accidents can happen even under a watchful eye. Having a fence wouldn’t have necessarily mattered since the accident actually happened in the pool. And a gate can only do so much…a 6 year old child would have likely been able to open a gate.

It’s easy to throw stones when the situation does not involve us. I wish CBB would not allow those comments to go through.

wow im glad she’s okie.

Back, when they reported the cartwheels, I dont think if that would be the case, the parents would allow it. She would probably be doing them far, but don’t forget,
it takes like a second to move across distances while doing cartwheels.

As for the sommersaults, i have done thousands in the water when little, and its so easy to become disoriented. But, to become unconsiouss, that takes time, that doesn’t happen in a split second so it probably took a while before they noticed. I hope she will be fine !!!

- Molly on

Actually Molly… it depends on the circumstances. I’d say if she’s okay (ie; no brain damage and safe and sound) then they got to her rapidly. If she was actually under water and inhaled without struggling and going frantic beforehand then it would likely only take a matter of moments to go unconscious and resurface.

Everyone seems to think that drowning is a frantic thrashing activity but it’s not always especially in the case of someone who’s injured or someone who knows how to swim and something goes wrong… sometimes it’s a matter of slipping beneath the water and disappearing.

A couple weeks ago a young man in kentucky hit his head on the diving board going into the publib pool… much the same he was found moments later floating in the pool… that was when they realized something was wrong.

- Rachel K. on

it’s true that it only takes a moment for a child to drown. we almost lost our 5 year old to a drowning while on vacation last month. by the time we reached the hospital we were told that he was a very, very sick little boy, and we were lucky to still have him. blessed is more like it. he was on massive amounts of steroids, breathing treatments, and other meds for 10 days but made a complete recovery. this happened while myself and 3 other adults were not 10 feet from the pool. things happen. let’s just be grateful that our guardian angels are on duty.

OMG, how scary! Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. I am so glad she is o.k.

Thanks for the update.

Thank the Lord

I’m relieved and not surprised that it turned out to be much more innocent. Mick Fleetwood has, since he got off the cocaine, become such a mature individual. Plus, I doubt his wife would have permitted anything reckless.
