Featured Review: Kushies Cloth Diapers: Our Adventure with Cloth Diapering

I was shocked at how many disposable diapers we were using per dayfor my two kids. Then I pictured all of those diapers in a landfill.Scary, huh? So, I decided to try cloth diapers from Kushiesfor our 5-month-old (and stepped up the potty training for my toddler).There are a few factors for me to consider when it comes to clothdiapering: We live in an apartment and we use coin operated washingmachines in the basement. Due to schedules, I can only do laundry a fewnights a week. What was I going to do with soiled diapers? How much wasit going to cost to wash all these diapers and would I have to washthem multiple times? Since we had just gotten a new diaper pail, theDiaper Dékor Plus, I used it to store the soiled ones. When I needed touse a disposable diaper, I would just use my old pail.

We made the switch to cloth a few months ago, and couldn’t be happier.

We chose BumGenius, a fantastic brand, no leaks, easy to use, look great, couldn’t recommend them enough.

There are many, many FABULOUS brands of diapers out there….if anyone reads this and is interested in cloth diapering, I will tell you that it is NOT difficult, and you will be amazed at what the options you will find available. I made them for three years, and cloth diapered the last two of my four children, and I loved every minute of it. I tried other brands as much as I could, and I got so excited to choose new prints and new styles.
Go for it…it’s awesome!

Another cloth diapering addict here. We started CD’ing right after my DD was done with her meconium and haven’t looked back.

I remember having so many blow outs with DD#1 as she was in disposables. I can happily say that after 7 months of CD’ing DD#2 we’ve NEVER had a single blow out.

Bum Genius One Size are out favourites but I also really like Blueberry side snap pockets.

pinstripesandpolkadots.com as well at diaperpin.com are great resources for cloth diapering. It is really easier then many people think. We have been cloth diapering for 2 years and love it. If only I had know 4.5 years ago. Both of my kids would have been cloth diapered.

We’ve been cloth diapering son #2 since birth and haven’t looked back (he’s 7 1/2 mos). I totally wish we had done it with our older boy. It’s easy, saves money and when you look at what disposables do to the planet (especially when thrown way in plastic bags) we couldn’t imagine not using cloth diapers.

When my girls were young (20+) years ago, I used cloth diapers – diaper service – at home. The daycare, understandable, required disposables; and we used them for long trips away from home.
Does anyone know the cost and “green-ness” of using diaper service now? (hoping for grandchildren in the not-too-distance future, lol)

Add me to the list of cloth diapering parents here! I switched from Seventh Generation diapers (which are the best disposables) to BabyBeehinds cloth diapers in March of last year (funny, because I actually found out about cloth diapering after Danielle put up a post on it! Just another example of things I’ve discovered through this blog!) Anyways, BabyBeehinds is a great company, but their diapers are made in China and ever since all the recalls on toys and other things, I’ve just been trying to avoid buying things that are made there so I switched to Imse Vimse organic cloth diapers(Swedish company, made in Sweden). I’ve been using the all in one diaper since January and love it! Easy to clean and wash and fits like a glove on her. Now that my daughter is potty trained my only regret is that I didn’t find out about cloth diapers earlier! It was really a lot of fun!

I’m glad you liked these however Kushies are some of the lowest quality cloth diapers that I’ve used.

I really prefer other varieties for absorbency and convenience. Fuzzibunz and BumGenius are some brands that are better made in my experience and work a lot better too.

I would have to agree with Megan’s comment. I’m glad you liked these but Kushies are some of the lowest quality diapers. There are many other brands that are similar in price and much better quality.

My favorites are the Bum Genius 3.0 One size pocket diapers and the Goodmama one size organic bamboo velour fitted diapers (these need a cover.) I LOVE clothdiapering for three reasons: 1) it saves me money, 2) it’s better for the enviroment and 3) cloth diapers are SO much cuter than disposable ones!
