Preemptive Pain Relief Requested by Caroline Rhea

Carolinerhea In a humorous appearance last week on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Caroline Rhea said she has no interest in pursuing natural childbirth with the baby she expects this fall. The actress and comedienne joked she’s hoping for "that 1950s birth where you’re knocked unconscious, and then the baby is brought to you," adding that she’d like an epidural "from month seven on, just in case." Pregnancy magazines have also been slightly unsettling for Caroline, particularly one article which warned that her "vagina will never look the same" after giving birth. The headline prompted the 44-year-old to quip, "I wouldn’t be able to spot mine in a lineup now."

Joking that her longtime boyfriend, Costaki Economopolous, is writing a book on "things not to say to pregnant women," Caroline revealed that if the baby is a boy she’s "supposed" to name him Vasilis, after Costaki’s father. "It sounds like something you would clear up with cream and antibiotics," Caroline said. But Costaki isn’t only interested in playing the name game; Caroline said the couple intends to hire a baby nurse, and "every time we pass a gorgeous woman he asks, ‘Will our baby nurse look like that?’"

I tell him, no, our baby nurse is coming from the Russian troll agency.

Baby-on-the-way will be the first for the couple.

My question is : Why “Russian troll agency”?

- Alana on

Vasili roughly translated in English is Bill or Billy

“I wouldn’t be able to spot mine in a lineup now.” That cracks me up. She’s such a funny lady.

I wonder if her baby will be a comedian. I love the way she brings her sense of humor about her pregnancy and body parts into the conversation. She seems so laid back about the whole thing. It’s pretty neat.

to Sammy-xx:

Vasili is english Basil (greek “king”).
Bill, William is from german Wilhelm (will, strong + helmet, protection)

Didn’t get a joke about “russian troll”…

I think the Russian Troll Factory is joking about Russian Mail Order Brides, saying that they would look for a nanny from a much less (physically) appealing “manual”. I highly doubt she was calling Russians trolls.

Just wanted to say that her dress is from Motherhood, where it’s on sale–AFTER I bought it, of course.

I have a friend who said the same thing about getting the epidural during her 7th month… just in case!

She’s saying that she will only hire ugly nannies :D

Haha, she’s a hoot!

There’s no way i would name my baby Vasili. I don’t care WHAT tradition it is paying respect to! I would however use it as a middle name.

She is a funny lady! I think by “Russian Troll Agency” she was joking about the Russian Matchmaking Agencies. Either that or she doesn’t know the difference between Russia and Scandinavia!

- Sami on

She just said on Regis and Kelly that she’s having a girl!

“that 1950s birth where you’re knocked unconscious, and then the baby is brought to you”

This simply is not funny. That was a horrific time in regards to birth culture in America and I highly doubt any educated woman would ever wish such a horrible experience on herself.

I truly wish Caroline the best, however, and hope she has the type of birth she dreams of.

She wasn’t wishing that on herself. She was JOKING. It’s amazing to me some of the things that people take offense to on this site. Some people just seem to be missing the sarcasm detector.
