Update: Carlos Guillen Welcomes First Daughter; Wife Hospitalized With Complications

Carlos_guillen Update: Carlos returned to the team on Sunday morning in hopes his wife Amelia would be released from the hospital that afternoon. Carlos revealed that following the birth of Camelia, his wife underwent two surgeries to try to stop bleeding that began on Tuesday.

Originally posted July 18th: Detroit Tigers’ Carlos Guillen was on cloud nine last week when he and wife Amelia welcomed daughter Camelia Jose Guillen on Monday, July 7th, but the bliss was short-lived. The 32-year-old third baseman has temporarily left the team to be with his wife, who was hospitalized earlier this week due to complications following the birth. Tigers manager Jim Leyland informed reporters that it "appears that everything is okay, and that’s the most important thing."

Camelia is the first daughter for Carlos and Amelia, who are also parents to sons Alfonso, 8, and Isaac, 5.

I hope Amelia will be alright. I love how they incorporated both their names into Camelia…its a pretty name too!

Congratulations to Carlos and his wife! I like how they used Camelia so it was like his wife’s name Amelia. I like both names, very feminine and NORMAL as opposed to the likes of some of the other celebrity names floating out there.

His wife must be better because Carlos was in the All Star Game the other night. I doubt he would be there if his wife was not well.

And Ichiro Suzuki of the Mariners remarked that he wanted his locker between his former team mates Guillen and George Sherrill for the All Star Game. I thought that was sweet.

I love the blend of their names for their new daughter’s name. Camelia is a lovely name. :)

I just hope all is well with his wife now.

Still, congrats to Carlos and Amelia on their daughter! :)

I hope mom’s faring well..I could care less about whether or not Camelia’s named something “feminine” or “normal.” I’m not paying their bills!!!!

Cute fam.

hehe…I think whatever Carmelia and Carlos choose is important, not what someone else thinks is “normal.”

I live in the Detroit metro area, and from an article in the Free Press that I read, Carlos Guillen’s wife was IN the hospital the night of the All Star game (July 15th) and Carlos still played. He flew out of New York after the game, and with no sleep, was with his sons at home the next morning and also visiting his wife at the hospital. A relative was present to help out with the boys.

I went through an experience similar to Amelia’s. It was rough.
I’m sure she’ll get rest, but of course it will be a while before she feels better.
