Expecting Gillian Anderson Feels Better After Three Bad Months

The first trimester of her third pregnancy was "debilitating" for Gillian Anderson, but now that she’s past those "terrible first three months," she tells USA Weekend she’s feeling "great." The 39-year-old actress — already mom to Piper Maru, 13, and Oscar, 20 months — expects a baby in the fall with boyfriend Mark Griffiths, and admits that she doesn’t "recall feeling that bad" with her previous pregnancies. She adds,

It makes you wonder why you subject yourself to that over and over again.

Because she had Piper when she was "quite young" the relationship they share is "close" and "intense," Gillian says. Then again, Gillian says becoming a mom again in her late-30′s has its own advantages, noting "there’s something about having a bit more life experience behind me this time."

My daughter is friends with Piper and she is a lovely, very well adjusted young lady. Very polite, laid back and talented. Gillian has done a great job!

I fully understand how she feels! I was SO sick and miserable during my first trimester. I was in the police academy during that time and was too sick to study after class (thank God I passed though). It was so bad that I wanted to get rid of the baby just to stop pain and sickness. Again… thank God that I made it through, because the second and last trimester’s were much better and now I have a wonderful 13 year old daughter.

26 is pretty young by today’s standards.

I wish I had started having kids in my mid-twenties, but here I am trying to squeeze in a second child at 36. Sigh.

I’m gonna guess she’s having a girl this time around. Only because of the fact that there is a slight increase in percentage for women who have severe sickness during a pregnancy to have girls (I believe it is about 60%) than boys. This is because women having girls produce more of the hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin which causes the main morning sickness symptoms.

I totally understand how she feels- I’m just getting into my 4th month and that 1st trimester was absolutely horrible- nothing nothing at all like my first easy pregnancy! Wishing her a peaceful rest of pregnancy!

I was sick for the first 7 months. It was horrible! It makes me never want to have another baby!

For the people I know, it has been the complete opposite. Everyone who had girls had no sickness. The ones who had boys had it very severe. I was sick from day 1 until the day I delivered. Same for my friend who had a boy and my sister. I really don’t believe that one sex produces more morning sickness.

In this day and age, YES, 26 yr-old moms are considered by most of the population as “ahead of the curve”. Many modern-day women at age 26 are either just finishing a PhD (or in the middle of one), or have only been in the work field full-time for 2 yrs, and want to wait to have kids in their early 30′s or later…

I think her comment of 26 is more in relation to the age that her third kid will come. 40

Of course, she also can think of herself as quite young at 26, because she said that starting working in a popular tv show ( xfiles) at that age, was also a tough experience for someone at that age.

Brandy-It’s all relative to each individual.It doesn’t mean it works that way for every situation. I just meant that scientifically, there is a higher chance for morning sickness with girls because of the hormone that female infants produce in the womb (human chorionic gonadotropin) normally CAN cause flu-like symptoms in pregnant mothers.

And on a personal note, unlike your story of knowing women who were sick with there sons, including yourself, I know a lot of people who had both girls and boys who have mentioned being sick with only there girl pregnancies and even going as far as to say that that is how they guessed the gender and were correct. It’s all relative to the individual though, so who knows!

26 is roughly average (actually, I think 25 is average). It’s not young or “quite young.”
