Ok, even if he meant it as a joke, I dont think its funny. You cannot drop a baby regardless if its a boy or girl. A nanny friend of mine very accidentally dropped the baby boy she was babysittin and unfortunately he passed and you cannot imagine the horror the family and my friend went through and the blame and guilt. And we’ve seen these pictures of britney almost dropping her baby boy. This is a very serious issue, and shouldn’t be taken lightly

I just read this quote on People.com and it also stated that Rooster’s son is named Miller Lyte. I think we should seriously take that into consideration when we consider the source of the comment.

I really don’t think we should think too hard about what he’s saying. He’s not joking about actually dropping a child. I think he’s talking more about playing rough with a son as opposed to having a little girl and treating her like a soft, frilly little thing. Besides, this is the guy rumored to have named his son after beer. He’s not being serious I’m sure.

Sometimes peoeple take things to seriously. It’s a joke and I think it’s funny. Most people don’t try to drop babies on purpose, but they do fall and trip. Scrapes, bruises, and boo boos are a normal part of life.

OK…that’s funny! He reminds me of something my DH would say. And my husband has to be one of the most gentle, loving fathers I’ve ever met. Rooster’s just being funny people, get a grip! Of course it’s horrific to drop a baby. Everyone knows that. After reading this comment, just roll your eyes, try and smile and know that it’ll all be OK! I promise!

That’s true. And funny. I don’t think he was being serious and its silly to take that for anything more than a joke. I don’t think anyone hasn’t had a heart attack moment when you looked away for a grand total of two seconds and the baby rolled away, luckily for me, both times the floor was cushioned with clothes or bags of diapers.

It’s a joke people. You know a joke? When people aren’t serious. Although I do get the point he is trying to convey about the differences between having a boy and a girl. I have one of each and I get it. I have read quite a few interviews with Rooster lately and I think he’s a hoot. As for his son’s name. I actually like the name Miller Lyte. Grew on me.

Neither the joke or the name Miller Lyte are that amusing to me. I’m not offended in any way, they just don’t tickle my funny bone. I live in New England area, I wonder if it would be funny if I named my kid Samuel Adam. Then again I’m not a famous person or a relation to a famous person so if I did it, it probably wouldn’t be as knee slapping as Miller Lyte apparently is.

I do feel for the very first poster who at least gave a reason as to why they don’t find the joke funny. I don’t think she should have to “remove stick and relax” and one ever so sympahtetic poster said later. That was a tragic story, I feel for the nanny and family.

I’m offended by it because he seems to insinuate that you have to be delicate with girls. Um, my cousin has fraternal boy/girl twins and while her daughter is definitely much smaller than her brother, she’s about ten times as daring and dangerous. She is rougher and a lot tougher and that is saying a lot considering how tough he is. I just don’t think its okay to be so stereotypical with children like that.
And I can’t believe anyone thinks its okay to name your child after an alcoholic beverage. It’s cruel and its not funny. I sincerely hope none of you are the same ones to deride Soleil Moon Frye for naming her child Jagger because I would take that name over a beer any day.
Oh and iluvallbabies: telling Molly to relax after the story she told was rude and insensitive. Think about things before you type. She told a very tragic and sad story that obviously still haunts her and she made a very valid point. Next time, try to be a little kinder.

I know its a joke but i dont find it funny. Obviously you were the lucky ones who didnt have a death baby in teh family. If it would be funny i would laugh. But its not.
Again, if you read my first post, you will see that i know its a joke but it hits a very close to home and joking about dropping a baby is not a joke but calling up the fate. There are certain things which shouldnt be taking lightly.

It don’t see what was so wrong with saying it was insensitive to tell Molly to relax after she told that story. How would you feel if someone told you to relax after you recounted a tragic story? It is rude!
And there are some things people will never find funny. If you took it as a joke, then fine, you found it funny. But I also think it would be a little more polite to recognize that some people didn’t find it funny and they have a right to that. Difference of opinion here people!
And yes, I still think its wrong to assume that all girls are delicate. But that’s my personal opinion.

I thought they would go for something fairly traditional. Not sure why!! Seems like the celebs always surprise us — whether it’s with something out there when I wasn’t expecting it or with something traditional when the parents are anything but =)

Ekaterina I was saying RELAX about the quote, NOT her tragic story.

Whether you find it amusing or not- it still remains a harmless joke. He is hardly going to walk around purposefully “dropping” his baby. I mean really!

And I think its very cute for Dads to see their little girls as “delicate”- Im not sure how you can turn that into a negative..? But hey, anything is possible here!!

I’m originally from Alabama and having seen Rooster recently on that new show about oil rigs? Black Gold, I think it is? He’s just a big, fun-loving guy who thinks he’s funny. Trust me: A lot of Southern/Western males are just like him.

I have made jokes about dropping infants and small children before. If I am aware that someone has suffered a tragedy with their child, obviously I would never make a comment like that around them. In this case, I understand Molly’s reaction… but I do think iluv is correct: It really is a joke; it’s obvious he wouldn’t intentionally drop a child, his or anyone else’s; and we can’t all walk around thinking constantly of others’ tragedies or nothing funny, mean or meaningful would get said.

And Miller Lyte is a totally awesome name. Miller McConaughey is cute and if anyone puts two and two together and figure out that he’s actually Miller *Lyte* McConaughey, where he’s from, it’ll be a great story.

Nope-nothing rude or insensitive about that post. If you want to speak that way to people, it’s your right to do so. It also means you have no place to cry foul when someone calls you out on it. Perhaps you should think about why you find Ekaterina’s posts so personally offensive. If you truly don’t believe you were being rude and insensitive, there’s no reason what she said should flip you out the way it has. And while several posters before you insisted the quote was a joke, you were the first to directly address Molly in a rude, insensitive way. So your argument in that regard holds no water.

As for the quote, I don’t find it funny or offensive. Then again, I don’t expect much from a guy named Rooster who names his son after a draft beer. More important people to listen to as far as I’m concerned.

iluvallbabies yes you are missing something, you are missing the point. you especially talked to me after i spoke about the trauma suffered. you were the first one mentioning the name, and being insensitive thats why you were picked up. you do have the right to opinion but you cannot tell me my is worse then yours. i commented on the joke. i said i knew it was a joke but the theme itself was very serious. you advised me to relax, howeever that wont bring the baby back. i dont care about the joke, i was referring to the issue itself. every day there are hundreds of children around north america seriously hurt by dropping or similar accidents. so telling people to relax, especially after i shared with you our tragic story, was little too unsensitive. and ekaterina and lauren were so kind to understand this serious issue, and that is the point you were missing.

again, this is a very serious issue and shouldnt be joked about

Molly as I have said in a previous post, it is tragic what happened to your friend. I think everyone here understands its dangerous to drop a baby.

However, this was meant to be a humorous quote from a funny guy- nothing more, nothing less. When I said relax, I was meaning dont take the quote literally- I did not mean “relax” over child safety.
