I think a lot of the pressure actresses have to lose the weight postpartum is something they do to themselves. They don’t have to book movies that are so close to their delivery date. They don’t HAVE to work so soon after having a baby to survive. It’s a totally different situation for a woman that’s single and broke versus a movie star with millions in her bank account whether she’s married or not, single broke mom has to go back to work asap, movie star doesn’t. They CHOOSE to go back to work so quickly, therefore they CHOOSE to have that pressure on themselves.

Actresses/models are also typically quite thin and in shape before they get pregnant – part of the job description I guess. If they continue a degree of this lifestyle during pregnancy (eating right and working out with a trainer), yes they probably will lose the baby weight quicker than your average woman after delivery.

I’m not saying there aren’t people who “push the limit to get back into a size 2 “, I’m just saying there are many dynamics in play here that may also contribute to these women regaining their pre-pregnancy bodies quicker than average.

Unfortunately I don’t think it’s just the Hollywood entertainment industry because the movie/television business is driven by consumers (the public) who want to see small, skinny women on their screens. It’s no coincidence that the biggest stars nowadays are Jessica Alba, Eva Longoria, and Katie Holmes. When it becomes your job to look camera ready then you lose your ability to dictate what your physical standards are to a certain extent. For example, I don’t think anyone who posts on this site would be cruel if say Jessica Alba took more than six months to lose her baby weight because that’s more true to real life. But I’d bet money that the public in general would rake her over the coals for being “fat” and she would also be losing a ton of jobs that could continue to secure her family’s future.

It is nice to hear a celebrity who isnt obsessed with getting right back into shape. Like these women should win a medal because they lost all their baby weight in 6 weeks..its unrealistic and as much as I hope that I will get myself back to my pre baby body I know it isnt going to happen as easy as they always say it does!

other erica I don’t care if it bugs you, it’s my opinion, and your entitled to your’s. I didn’t even know she had a baby shower yet, but I have heard she is having a daughter and I think she is, but time will tell. Now everytime I see minnie, I think of her picking her nose nonstop, tmz had a bunch of pictures of her doing that during lunch, and it grossed me out lol. And erica I agree with you, yea losing baby weight is different when your say an actress, than when you are a sahm and don’t feel the pressure to be skinny for a movie you will be doing in say 8 weeks.

She seems so real and funny in interviews. I love hearing what she has to say.

brooke it really bugs me when you say things like that here and on the camila alves posts. some people really just do not want to know the sex. i didn’t find out with either of my boys. there have been no rumors on minnie at all, she has been very clear that she wants a surprise. unless you are counting that she had pink flowers at her baby shower, again assumptions are being made and by posting here being spread around. some people really don’t know the sex, its not about hiding it or not wanting to tell people. sorry this is a topic that just really bothers me when people insinuate celebs are hiding something when sometimes they really are not.

i do like minnie’s quotes about not losing the weight right away, the fat and pudgy thing is very funny. she liked green items but during my last pregnancy i ate a lot of red, apples, cherries, red peppers, peaches…very strange!!

They are only held to the standard at which they allow. If more women stood their ground like this, Hollywood would have to bend. You go, girl!!

I think her sentiments on losing weight are very healthy, but actresses are held to a different (and IMO much more rigorous standard) than the average woman. For one thing, their livelihood basically depends on the way they look; if it takes too much time for them to lose weight they may lose jobs or cease to be considered “good looking” enough for future work. Of course it’s ridiculous, but the entertainment industry is so brutal because the public demands these women to be small and skinny, whether we (I mean “we” generically) fully acknowledge this or not. At the same time, there is a right and a wrong way to lose baby weight, and while it would be ideal for all women to lose the weight on their own time, the weight restraints that have been placed on actresses from the time they become famous must be hard to shake even if the extra weight is from a baby. Hopefully I think the industry is getting a little better with the pressure, but not much.
