Amanda Holden says daughter has "very grown-up taste"

Amandahol_mike_51575793_max_cbbThe stress of dealing with a finicky eater is something most moms will encounter at some point in time, but so far it hasn’t been the case for Amanda Holden.  The 37-year-old judge on Britain’s Got Talent says that — in daughter Alexa "Lexi" Louise Florence, 2 ½ — she’s been blessed with the rare toddler who will eat just about anything.  Lexi has "very grown-up taste," Amanda notes, counting "cashews, olives and taramsalata" among her favorite foods.  She added,

I really love that [Lexi]‘s not a fussy eater.

Her daughter’s attitude about food could very well be linked to Amanda’s attitude about child-rearing.  Amanda said that in her youth her own parents were "over-complimentary," an approach she is also taking with Lexi because feels it will pay dividends in the end.

I’m like that with … Lexi. I’m really encouraging when she’s painting on the kitchen floor. I try to instill positivity into everything, if you can do that, then naturally they will have some kind of confidence.

As for whether she plans to make Lexi a big sister someday soon, Amanda said for now she’s content to focus on her upcoming wedding to fiancé Chris Hughes.  "Everyone’s keen for me to have another baby, but I’m still thinking about it," Amanda said.

“I’m really encouraging when she’s painting on the kitchen floor.”

i don’t know about this. i don’t have children or anything, but it seems to me that there is a way to encourage your kid to paint and have them do it on paper/a canvas rather than your floor. to me there need to be boundaries in a child’s life, otherwise they will think they can get away with anything all the time.

Not so sure about her parenting philosophy. I’m all for instilling confidence, but also boundaries, a respect for property and the difference between right from wrong…those things help a child feel secure. They also assist your child into growing into mature, well-adjusted and happy adults…which is our job as parents.

I’m not sure she meant literally ‘on the kitchen floor’. I took it to mean that Lexi was sitting on the kitchen floor painting. I think it’s great to encourage children and be positive, but I think it can be counter productive to always be ‘over-complimentary’. It seems that children that are constantly complimented for every little thing at home are shocked when they go to school/sports activities, etc and find that the real world doesn’t pat them on the back for every single accomplishment big and small.

Guys, I don’t think she means her daughter is litterally painting ON the floor! I think she means she gave her daughter some canvas and paper, and her daughter is sitting on the floor painting.
This is how my parents raised me too, and I think it’s a brilliant parenting scheme.
Amanda has also said she’s a bit like Monica from Friends, so I suppose she does have control over her house.
