Rachel K. on

I have to say the story about daycare kids not going outside completely threw me for a loop! I work at a child development center with children aged 6-weeks to 5 years where we have daily schedules and curriculums and I’ll be completely honest in saying that for the past two months of summer those schedules have pretty much completely gone out the window. We are outside ALL THE TIME!

Now don’t get me wrong, the mulch is annoying and weather can be a pain but we’ll go out regardless. Flip flops on children don’t stop us and we keep extra coats in case a parent forgets. We also have the policy that if a child is “too sick to go outside” then they are too sick to be in school. We will make sure that the children wear hats and gloves that the parents send but we will not make all of the children stay inside because one child has a cold.

Outside time is one of the most relaxing times of the day for the kids and for us teachers… I just really don’t understand that one at all.

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
