Usher says son 'completes' him, changes his perspective on life

Usherandfamilystartraks As it does for most, fatherhood has transformed Usher.  The 29-year-old R&B singer says in the cover story for the July issue of Vibe that since he and wife Tameka Foster welcomed son Usher Raymond V, 6-months, he sees the world in a new light.

My son completes me. He changes my perspective on what life is, and what matters.

Balancing career and family can be tough, as Usher can attest.  He clarified that — contrary to rumors and earlier reports– he did not fire his mom Jonetta Patton from her position as manager.  Instead, he says he paid his mom "the ultimate compliment – to retire her to be a full-time grandmother."  For now, Usher says he has his sights set on being the best father he can be.

These are the days of my son’s life, these first three years. I want to be there. The challenge is having it all.

Well I certainly can’t wait to see a pic of this handsome little guy, he will be almost a 1yr old in a minute!! I bet he is really cute!!

I don’t understand this. So his 4 other kids didn’t change him? Just this new one?

What four other kids?

Poppy- Usher doesn’t have any other biological children. His wife has, I believe, 3 sons that are now his step children.

I have never been a fan of Usher personally although I like his music. He always was just so cocky!! That being said though I’ve been really impressed with his transformation since becoming a father. I like him more and more after each interview when he speaks of his wife and son as you can see he really loves them and holds them in the highest regard.

There was one pic of his son when they were at an airport or something like that but yeah you don’t see much if any of his son.

The other kids are from his wife’s previous marriage(s). They’re his step children.

Oh! I was confusing him with P. Diddy. Opps.

Yeah right. I’ll believe that Usher didn’t fire (but retired) his mom when I hear her come out and say it!

Usher is young and rich. So these people live for the moment.Tameka is in a “Rags To Riches” dream right now, and when she wakes up she’ll be back in the hood telling her stories in the local pubs for other gold diggers.

Natasha -agree!
And shouldn’t his mom be the one who decides if she wants to retire or not (I’d guess she isn’t that old, since he’s only 26). I’m that age and I can’t imagine my 50 year old Mother retired, she just stared her own business!

Also, I know the other 3 kids are his stepchildren, but they live with him and he never mentions them. And it’s not like they’re grown ups and he has no influence on their upbringing. I mean look at Ashton K. with the Willis girls, and the way he talks about them even though they are (almost) grown up now.

Natasha-agree!
I’m his age and can’t imagine my mother retiring at 50 (and I’d guess that his mother is not much older). But, maybe it’s different when you’re rich?

As for his stepchildren, aren’t they still very young (not even teenagers yet)? It’s not like he has no influence on their life, if they live with them. At the very least they’re his son’s brothers.
I much prefer Ashton K.’s comments about the Willis girls (who are much older).

I think this woman (his wife) had to have made a huge impression on him. To take on step-children can be a big task and he now has is it 3 or 4 cuz there’s 4 kids in that “Kid’s Choice” picture PLUS his own biological son. That’s alot to deal with all at once. I’m a little skeptical about his wife though. What was her story? She got divorced to be with Usher and then immediately got pregnant….hmmmmm.

In all the interviews he’s had, all he mentions is how blessed he is to have his wife and son. His stepchildren are not even an afterthought. I feel sorry for those kids. Their mother breaks up their home to be with the man she was having a fling with, and then their new stepdad never says he loves them or feels honored to have them in his life? Any woman who chooses a step father for her children that refuses to love those children as if he were their biological father is putting her man before her children. No child deserves that from a parent.

I think it’s important to remember that this is an INTERVIEW. Usher is answering questions that he is asked, and the people who publish his responses choose what we see. Just because we don’t read about his step-children doesn’t mean that they have not had an impact on his life, or that he didn’t mention them in the interview. It’s unfair to judge him based only on what we see, especially since we don’t know anything about his relationship with his step-children.
