Naomi Watts gives an update on her son, "compares notes" with Nicole Kidman

Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber‘s son is growing up fast. Born last July 25th, Alexander ‘Sasha’ Pete is now already nine months old and meeting his developmental milestones, proud mom Naomi shared with People.

He’s turning pages in the book. He’s crawling and standing up. He can wave. I read Goodnight Moon to him every night.

When asked if close friend Nicole Kidman — who is expecting in late July — would be a good mother, the 39-year-old actress gently corrected the reporter, saying, "She’s already a great mum!" However, Naomi did reveal that she has traded stories and advice with her fellow Aussie.

Whenever you’re pregnant, you always call on your pregnant friends and compare notes. It’s what happens in friendship.

Nicole is already a mother, as Naomi said.
Sometimes people forget that Bella and Connor are Nicole kids…and she’s already a mom, this will be her third child.
Maybe is because she doesn’t spend too much time with them…or we don’t see pics of them together.

Thanks Naomi for correcting that reporter!! Like another poster said, people seem to forget that Isabella and Connor are her children too!! Why she does not spend more time with them only she (Tom,Connor and Bella) know.

good for naomi correcting the reporter! a lot of people did the same thing as the interviewer when tom and katie were expecting suri. they acted as if this would be tom’s first “real” child.

and, we really don’t know how much time nicole spends with the kids. her friend, naomi, seems to think that nicole is a good mom to her kids. a lack of pictures doesn’t prove anything.

In fact, maybe a lack of pictures proves everything (she could spend tons of time with them, but respects their privacy and doesn’t want them to suffer from exposure to the media so she doesn’t allow photos)…

the GALL of that reporter… how disrespectful can you be… nicole has said that as those children are teenagers, she has to allow them to make some of their own decisions, and right now it is their choice to live in California… and as long as she is there legal parent no matter how much WE see them together w/o proving there is some sort of neglect or abuse issues, she will always have rights to those children… i cannot believe the NERVE of some people…

On top of that, Bella & Connor have been Nicole’s kids for over 10 YEARS! It’s not like they’re new in her life or anything. It’s sad to think about because Brad & Angelina’s kids will still be referred to as the adopted kids 10 years down the line?

That reporter was totally out of line! Just because it appears that they are being “raised” by Tom and Katie, doesn’t make Nicole any less of their mother. HELLO “PAPS”, Nicole and Tom adopted Isabella and Conor TOGETHER and raised them TOGETHER for 10 years. That makes them both still Nicole and Tom’s kids. What nerve, that really bothers me.
Anyways, what I really wanted to know is why Naomi and Liev call him Sasha. I know it’s a nickname, but anyone have any idea what the meaning behind it is?

Sasha is the Slavic nickname for Alexander, and Liev is Ukrainian. That is the explanation Naomi gave after he was born, anyhow.

Sometimes you have wonder if some reporters even think before they open their mouths and ask ridiculous questions like that. What a complete idiot. Nicole has been a mother for 10 years already.

It’s always difficult having parents who are split. My dad had us every other weekend… But when we became teens and had so many activities going on, it became so difficult to be away on weekends. He was unselfish and allowed us to stay involved in our activities even though it affected his visitation. For Nicole, it may be the ultimate showing of love that she is allowing her children the stability the one main home will give. I’m sure she probably sees them often, and most likely talks to them every day. We don’t know, as we are not there. The PAPS are just idiots sometimes. If they don’t see the kids there, they tend to forget what the set-up is. Connor & Bella are Nicole’s kids. They’re fortunate to have parents who love them!!:)

Im so glad naomi stood up for her best friend. I would hope that my best friend would do the same for my over my adopted children. No matter what we all know it seems that Nicole is Bella and Connor’s mum and that is the way it is. Nicole will be a mum for the 3rd time not the 1st. Thank god Bella and Conor are turning into great kids after all this rubbish in the media about their parents/step parents and new siblings! They are a credit to tom nicole and Kaite and Keith

The reporter may have been rude but he has a point. Nicole’s children seem more like Katie’s children. The children spend more time with Katie so it is no wonder they call her “mom”. It is sad really, seeing a mother who has so little influence over children. I mean, Connor and Bella are being raised as only Scientologist but Nicole is Catholic. With this new baby, here is a child Nicole can be a true mother to. A child who will spend all of its time with her and most likely will be raised in her religion.

I totally disagree. I think it is very selfish for a parent to move to another location which creates distance between them and their children after a divorce. Talking on the phone to your children is good but nothing beats spending time with your children. The bottom line is that Nicole either lives in Austrailia and Nashville and her kids leave in LA which means she probably does not seem them often. Traveling to Australia is not like traveling from LA to Orange County. And even if the kids do visit for a few weeks, they are still going to back to the father’s for the rest of time being. Parents are supposed to put their own needs and desires above their own and it appears that Nicole has not done that.
It would be have great for Nicole to say “I understand you guys want to live in LA so you know what I’m going to live in LA to be close to you even though the rest of my family is in Australia”. Every parent should desire to be as active and involved in their lives as they can. When Katie was pregnant, you saw her and Tom and the kids soccer and baseball games, Nicole was nowhere to be found. I assume she was working.

in response to di, we don’t know these people personally. we have no idea how often nicole sees her children so how can we sit here and judge her as a parent? katie holmes has been their step-mother for two years whereas nicole has been their mother since day 1 (give or take). she obviously loved them enough to bring them into her life and it’s gonna take a lot more evidence than a lack of pictures to convince me that she neglects them in any way.

michelle- I think you hit the nail on the head! Nicole has actually said that she goes out of her way to avoid being photographed with her children. In general, she is a much more private person that Tom is. I’m guessing we probably won’t see very many pictures of her new baby either.

Di- I think your comment about Nicole being able to be a “true” mother to her new baby was very harsh and hurtful. Imagine how Nicole would feel if she read that!

Anyway, Connor and Bella probably see Nicole more than we realize. I remember reading that they spent Christmas with her last year, and I believe they also spent quite a bit of last summer with her.

As for them calling Katie “mom”, I personally don’t have an issue with that. Nicole has said that they call her “mum” (the Australian term for “mom”). Also, it is very possible that they call Katie “mom” mainly for Suri’s benefit. Suri naturally calls Katie “mom”, and at her age it would probably be very confusing for her to hear her siblings call her mom by her first name.

In terms of the religion thing…Believe me, that happens even with parents who are married sometimes. For example, I once knew a couple where the wife was Catholic and the husband was Lutheran. They decided to raise their daughters Catholic.

Sarah- ITA! The paps/media did the same thing when Angelina and Brad were expecting Shiloh. They acted like she was going to be their first “real” child. Unfourtnately, they are doing the same with Angie’s current pregnancy. They are claiming that this baby will be her and Brad’s second child, when in fact it will be their fifth!

Why is it that the media views biological kids as more important than adopted kids?

I also don’t really understand the “she’s giving her children freedom to choose where thet live”. Of course that is good, but as a mother I would choose to live near them and not on the other side of the world. Even is she flies back to LA once or even twice a month, that’s still visiting.

I do agree that the reporter was stupid, they will always be her children no matter how often she sees them. Good of Naomi to correct him/her.

I agree Sarah. I imagine Nicole would feel so hurt if she knew people try to imply that she is a bad mother to her older children. Katie really shouldn’t have said that. I hope she at least apologized to Nicole for that. I thought I heard that Nicole and her husband were looking for a place in LA to be closer to her kids.

At first, I was so outraged by Di’s comments. They are so filled with bias, superiority and condescension, while so lacking in personal knowledge. But then, after reading some of the comments following, I realized that there is no reason to be outraged as it appears that people see those comments for what they are.

What is apparent is that Nicole has people in her life who care for her and stick up for her, such as Naomi and Tom (who made it clear most recently on Oprah that Nicole sees the kids whenever and wherever). As Michelle and CelebBabyLover pointed out, Nicole has made it clear that she avoids the paps (not that hard to do) and I think she’s a better mom for that.

Kind of a stupid questions by the reporter anyway. Even if Naomi did not think that Nicole will be a good mom, did they think that she would say that? duh! I have seen pictures of Nicole and Isabella holding hands while they were shopping and her and the kids at an awards show and last year Keith, Nicole and Isabella were photographed out walking in Australia. People just need to stop being so judgemental. The older kids get, the less they do with parents, that is just the way that it is. We try really hard to spend quality time out with our teenagers, but they are busy w activities and friends and so it gets less all of the time and we live in the same house. I am sure that Nicole and Keith’s schedules do interfer some with her seeing the kids, but I bet that if they needed her, hell nor high water would keep her away. She and Keith just bought a house in LA because she wanted to be closer and probably wants the babe to grow up knowing her other kids.

Lenny and Karen- I couldn’t have said it better myself! Nicole and Keith have indeed bought a house in LA (or are at least looking for one). No, they have not been in LA lately, but I think that is mainly due to the fact that Nicole wants to have the baby in her homeland of Australia (I realize she’s not due until July, but given her age and her past problems getting and staying pregnant, I don’t blame her for wanting to stay in one place right now), where her parents and sister are, which is completely understandable.
