i love these. the prints are wonderful and the gowns look like they are made really well made. But does anyone know of something like this that is less expensive? $95, ouch! With everything else I have to buy for baby I just can’t justify another $100 out. Anyone know of a cheaper alternative?

I think these are so pretty and such a step up from the standard maternity floor garb but what I don’t understand is how any one gown is going to last them through all of labor/postpartum stuff. I had a perfectly typical labor and delivery and postpartum period, and there was SO MUCH blood and goo and gross stuff just flowing out of me (sorry, if TMI) that I was grateful that there were an unlimited supply of hospital gowns to keep changing into. If you bring your own gown, no one’s going to wash it for you, so you end up keeping the dirty, bloody garments in a corner of your room for your whole hospital stay. Ick. I can see purchasing something like this for pictures, but I certainly wouldn’t want to risk wearing it for any of the “real” stuff. Unless I was infinitely wealthy, I guess, and could order about 10 at once!

only in hollywood wood someone spend $100 for a “gown” to give birth in…..ridiculous! as the previous comment said, my labor/delivery was so blood/goo/etc laden that i threw out the $5 maternity t-shirt i had been wearing. they also had me change into a backless gown (which makes sense for functional reasons)…i mean i’m all for “to each her own” but if she thinks that thing is going to look pretty enough for pictures after giving birth, well….

It’s a little pricey for something that is going to get really messy and may not ever get the stains out. but it’s a great idea. I think I would make my own before I would actually buy one.

Oh yeah – I was only considering wearing this for photos and to greet family and friends. It’s way to expensive to just be bled all over during the actual labor and delivery! But even to wear for photos and what not I’d like to keep it $50 or less. If anyone knows of alternatives that would be great. Otherwise, I’m thinking of just having a couple made…

Amandamay,if we all had that amount of money and could afford, I think plenty of people would do the same. I don’t see the harm. She has done charity work and since this is a special time in her life ,why not spoil herself

I had one of these gowns and loved it! i didn’t wear it for the delivery but I wore the next day when everyone was visiting. i also wore it afterwards because it was so comfy and easy to nurse in. you’re giving life ladies – treat yourselves!

I haven’t children, so forgive my ignorance but wouldn’t the bottom of the gown be up around your waist so that much of the guck (sorry if offensive) wouldn’t get on the gown? Also, it is most likely that when you are giving birth you would be in a hospital gown. Couldn’t the BYOG, be for active labour, not pushing?

I personally don’t see the problem for spending the money on something that is going to make you feel a little prettier in a not-so-pretty situation. $95 dollars really isn’t that much money when you think about it.

These gowns just look like potato sacks to me! I labored in the hospital gown, which got all bloody, and then put on a cute Victoria’s Secret nightie I got for $25. I’m not against spending some money on myself,but I’d rather spend the $100 on a cute outfit to go home in than a dumpy gown.

I don’t see the need to buy one of those things, it just seems like a frivolous waste of money. When I delivered my youngest I was wearing nothing but a nighttime nursing bra (I had a waterbirth with her) which got covered in meconium when she stooled right after she was delivered. Anyone that tells you meconium doesn’t stain is lying! I would be pretty peeved at myself for ruining something I spent $100 on (I rarely spend that much money on anything for myself.)

I agree that the gown would probably get all gunked up during the delivery. However, who’s to say that Jessica is planning on wearing it during the actual delivery? She may very well be planning on wearing it AFTER the delivery, for pictures and visitors.

I can understand not wanting to wear a hospital gown for pictures and visitors. Not only do they not look great, but the ones that have ties on them (as apposed to snaps) don’t fit very well either. They also don’t always stay on very well.

I didn’t want to pay that much for one so I made my own. I haven’t sewn since HS but it wasn’t too hard. I got a plus size dress pattern and modified the sleeves and back to open with velcro.
