I Bought It: Readers tell us about their CBB-inspired purchases: Focus on places to sit

BumbobabyseatlimeWe know that CBB Readers love to shop via the site so we asked everyoneto tell us what they’ve bought based on what they’ve seen on the site-photos, reviews, ads, giveaways, etc. There were quite a few readerswho told us they had purchased chairs or other seats for their kids after reading about them onCBB so I decided to dedicate a special edition of I Bought It! to this category.

Jasebumbo1Jasebumbo2socksCBB Reader Antoinette who hails from Dayton, Ohio wrote:

I LOVE your site – it’s my coffee every morning. Ha ha.  I just had mybaby boy 4 months ago and he is a JOY, I have purchased him a Bumboseat (thanks to your site) and a Max Daniel blankie for him. And abunch of other little odds and ends..ie: pacifiers, Trumpette socks…

I love the Bumbo seat because, like all babies, Jase is spoiled rotten andneeds to see and be with me 24/7. So while I’m in the kitchencooking/cleaning he can sit up like a big boy and watch mommy cook (andI know he is safe and out of  trouble, ha ha).  Jase loves his Bumbobecause he thinks he is a big boy when he sits in it, because he issitting up and can interact with his surroundings. I also love to feedJase in his Bumbo seat, it’s very easy and convenient, and it helps mekeep his attention. When I was pregnant I saw an advertisement/review onyour site for the Bumbo seat, and just had to have it!

[Please note: Bumbo seats should never be used on a table, counter-top,chair, or other elevated surface. It should be should used at ground level, but never leave a child unattended. Never use on any elevated surface.Never use on a raised surface.Never use as a car seat or bath seat.Designed for floor level use only.Never leave your baby unattendedas the seat is not designed to betotally restrictive and may notprevent release of your baby in theevent of vigorous movement.

Older Bumbo seats were recalled because they lacked a warningabout this after the Consumer Protection Safety Commission (CPSC)received 28 reports of young children falling out ofthe Bumbo Baby Sitter seat, including three skull fractures, whichoccurred when children fell out of chairs that had been placed ontables. There is nothing wrong with the product, however, as long as it is used with the above guidelines. Consumers can contact Bumbo to obtainnew warning label stickers and instructions, free of charge. The newwarning label states: “WARNING – Prevent Falls; Never use on anyelevated surface.” For more information, visit bumbosafety.com.]

The Bumbo was a purchase that I was cautious of making because I was concerned that it was nothing other than an expensive foam gadget. Boy was I wrong!!! It was the best purchase that we made (other than our Bugaboo Cameleon and Svan high chair) as it SAVED ME! From the second that Penelope was able to sit in it motherhood became easier. I was having a hard time because I was experiencing a severe case of attachment parenting. Penelope would not let me put her down. She didn’t enjoy her bassinet or bouncer, but from the second she was placed in her Bumbo – JOY!

FrancinesvanhighchairI can brush my teeth, put on makeup, do my hair, cook, and eat! With the tray we are able to use the Bumbo in place of a high chair at restaurants or friends houses. It is light as a feather and easy to clean. At 10 months Penelope still loves her Bumbo, she has never escaped and has rarely tried. The reason why she loves it so much is because she is apart of the action. She can see all that we are doing and she can "converse" with us while we are doing it. (I will admit that we do put her on counters and tables, but we NEVER leave her while she is up high.)

FrancinesvanbouncerWe have bought the Svan highchair based on the great reviews we have seen. I love it in every way as well. It is small, stylish, multi-useful, not everyone has it, and it matches our dining room set!!! (espresso/lime)

We also have the Svan Bouncer. It was a beautiful piece that blended into our house, and it was used a lot in Penelope’s first three months.

KaboostCBB Reader Brooke told us:

We recently purchased the Kaboost as an alternative to a booster seat – again, we LOVE IT!  My daughter loves the freedom of (safely) getting up and down on her own, and yet she can sit at an appropriate height like the rest of us!

What a cute baby! He looks like a little man!

I loved the bumbo for my son too. You just have to make sure that you keep them on the ground(and not on any other surface) because they can flip out.

“So while I’m in the kitchen cooking/cleaning he can sit up like a big boy and watch mommy cook (and I know he is safe and out of trouble, ha ha).”

I wanted to alert all CBB readers that the Bumbo Seat is only to be used on the FLOOR. The Bumbo can and has been known to tip over, because it does not have a stable base. Bumbo has recently issued a warning on the packaging and those who have older Bumbo’s may not know about this. The company had previously posted images of babies being on raised surfaces on their site, but these have now been removed. CBB, please remove any images of babies in their Bumbo on raised surfaces.

I thought the Bumbo seat was recalled

The Bumbo is fine, but the Prince Lionheart BebePOD is even better!!!

Interesting. I have been wondering about the Bumbo seat, it never really looked very comfortable. But now I’m convinced it’s a life saver. Penelope looks so cute!!

About the Kaboost, I was just watching a video of it the other day (while I was trying to shop for a Kettler bike for a little toddler who loves bikes) and wondering if kids would like it. I might get one for my friend’s sons.

- ShopLittleGifts on

He is ADORABLE. I love those little socks. They all are precious.I had many comments on how neat our bumbo seat was. It was very convienient to load in the car instead of walker.I LOVED our bumbo seat(we had the lilac). We used it alot, To feed her,let her watch tv,etc. I even put it inside our wagon to take her for walks with her brother and sister. She Loved it!

- Steph on

Clever idea.
But shouldn`t it be only used by babies that can sit on their own?
That is something that I hear everytime with strollers: babies shouldn`t sit in an upright position until they can sit without help.

- kristin on

Kristin,
The Bumbo is only to be used by babies that have good head and neck control most babies have great head and neck control before they are able to sit unassisted. The Bumbo can safely be used by babies that can sit well while assisted.

- Meghan on

Look at him, he doesnt even look old enough to sit up! He’s such a cutie pie handsome :) The bumbo seat is a must have.

- Dameka Senter on

Kristin,

Where did you hear the sitting rule from? I only ask b/c my mother-in-law has said the same thing and I’ve seen other comments here on CBB to that effect and I wonder if there is a kernel of truth in it somewhere? My doctor says infant car seats and Bumbos are fine, but I’m curious to know the basis for the belief that you shouldn’t put babies in a sitting position until they can sit without help.

We’ve been using the Bumbo since my daughter was 3 months old. She is now 4 months and can sit up on her own using her hands for support, but we have to put her in a seated position first. She can’t get there on her own from her back or tummy.

- Sami on

Sami-
I`m working as a childrens`nurse and here in Europe it is highly recommended not to put babies in upright chairs, strollers etc. because their back and neck are not strong enough to carry the weight. That may cause problems of their spine.
Even the popular Baby Björn is not recommended over here because of the position babies have in it.

- kristin on

I live in Wisconsin, so I am a United States citizen, but what’s wrong with us? Who would ever think its acceptable to leave their baby alone on a counter in a chair? We as a society need to take responsibility for our own actions, and not blame manufacturers for our own mistakes and sue them. That’s why they had to do the recall.

- Becky2 on

I purchased this seat for my now 8 month old niece who at the time was almost four months. She has used it now when she is at her grandma’s house, her 28 month old sister uses it every once in a while when she needs a boost to the table. She fits in it well, they both love it.
