Plain Mary Kensington Baby Play Mat: the ultimate soft landing

04/25/2008 at 07:00 AM ET

Yhst64002190206028_1996_10536907 I admit I get a little jealous of my kid sometimes. Her whole day consists of playing and eating, and then she gets to sleep 12 hours a night. Now, I have another reason to envy her, because of her Plain Mary’s Kensington Baby Play Mat. Made of quilted micro-suede, the 56X36 floor blanket, which comes in five tasteful, rich colors and can also be monogrammed, feels like a little cloud, even when it’s placed on the hardest of floors.

My daughter is still a little shaky on the whole sitting thing, so I’m used to hearing a "thud" here and there. Trying out the Kensington Play Mat ($180) today, she landed so softly I didn’t even notice. Neither did she. Amidst her toys, she became transfixed by the fabric, running her hand back and forth along it and grinning at me as if to say "Can you believe how soft this thing is?!" Then she drooled on it. I can’t blame her. This is one gorgeous product, which moms like Samantha Harris and Brooke Shields can attest to; they were among the many stars who popped by one of the gifting suites that Plain Mary hosted at the Golden Globes and Emmys last year. Machine washable, the Kensington is also great for outdoor use. Perhaps when my husband and I get a minute to ourselves some day, we’ll borrow it for a picnic. Today, though, I’m planning to take a nap on it right after I put the baby down for her own snooze in her crib. It’s just too tempting to resist.

Mom Said It

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
