Katie Holmes busy planning Suri's 2nd birthday party

Katieandsuri OK! reports that plans are underway for a star-studded birthday bash to celebrate Suri Cruise turning 2 on Friday.  But, according to the magazine, plenty of family members will help round out the celebrity-heavy guestlist — including Suri’s older siblings Isabella, 15, and Connor, 13 from dad Tom Cruise‘s prior marriage to actress Nicole Kidman.  Also expected to be on hand are Tom’s mother Mary Lee Mapother and Suri’s maternal grandparents, Martin and Kathy Holmes

Speaking of Suri’s mom, Katie Holmes, the 29-year-old actress is determined to make her daughter’s birthday party a special one.  An unnamed source tells OK!,

You can count on special things like individual place settings and festive bunting. And when Katie plans a party, she plans a party!

And although she’s probably not constrained by much of a budget, one area Katie can apparently skimp on is flowers.  Suri, the unnamed source says, has allergies and Katie "will make sure that there’s nothing to upset them!"

I thought Nicole was Tom’s 2nd wife…wasn’t he married to Mimi Rogers before that? So Katie is number 3.

As a former foster care child, and now social worker, I can’t help but feel sad when I read about pricey, lavish birthday parties for some celebrity children. I understand wanting to give your child the world, but I just couldn’t drop hundreds of thousands of dollars on a child’s birthday, when I know how many children there are who don’t have their needs met, let alone their wants. And yes, I would say that to anyone and everyone’s face.

Well, I do agree with Sasha, but we must remember. A persons money is their own to do what they please with it, and nobody is obligated to anyone else’s money. It would be kind for them to donate some to a charity, but it can’t be expected. And you never know, they may very well donate some money to causes that we don’t know about. Some people are altruistic and don’t feel the need to announce :)

tori was on tyra recently talking about this to the guests who were parents who spoil their children.she said the emotional connection btw u and ur child is worth more than any party(or words to that effect). lucky for suri, she seems very close to her family.im sure it will be a blast.

Although little Suri probably has EVERYTHING, money, diamonds – whatever…she’s such a poor little girl :-( I feel so sad each time I read something about her…she’ll never have her freedom…

Katie has a right to spoil her daughter. It’s her money. You don’t know how much she has donated to charity. It’s heartbreaking that their are children who go without their needs met but Katie’s only responsibility is to her child. No kid needs a birthday party that costs more then my house but if I happened to win the lottery tomorrow I wouldn’t want people judging me on how I spent my money.

She is two already. OMG! I hope we get pictures of the birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SURI CRUISE.

I’ve thrown big blow out parties for my children and I don’t come anywhere near Katie’s ballpark of money. Tee. Hee. Why? Because I love my children dearly and when they have a birthday I want the whole world to know about it, even if it’s just one small corner of the world. I love birthday parties and think they are the most fun parties on the planet. Especially kids parties.

As for celebrities donating to charity. Get it over it. Middle class and working class should also give to charity. You don’t get off the hook because you don’t make the kinda cash as Katie and Tom. My favorite charities are Dress for Success and Housing Works. Everyone should give what they can afford stop worrying about what celebrities give.

And most if not all well paid celebrities do donate to charity as it’s smart business. And most non-profits don’t care if a celebrities gives out of the kindness of their heart or because they want the tax break. Celebrities don’t have to announce their charitable donations. That’s between them, the non-profit, and their accountant.

I understand where Sasha is coming from. We make (to be honest) more money than we know what to do with but my husband and I have always been in tune with how many needy people there are in the world. It’s not an issue of “do you put the money that would have gone into an unnecessarily lavish b’day party to charity instead” but one of us not being able to enjoy such excess and (to be quite frank, gluttony) when there are so many who are deprived. Not only that, we were both raised with parents who refused to give their children everything under the sun just because they could afford it. And we think we are better for that. That being said, I have no clue how much Katie is paying for this b’day, and I’m sure there are many things my family spends money on that others would deem excessive.

- Lenny on

Well said, Sheba. I totally agree with you!!

I was making a general statement, not personally attacking Katie Holmes. I just think that it is sad and wrong to see a child NEVER have been given a gift in their entire life vs. a child who has a million dollar plus party every year. Yes, I do think that those priorities are skewed. If I had an unlimited bankroll, my children would have great parties, but they’d also have a great sense of what it means to help people who are less fortunate.

- Sasha on

Um, yeah…I am a bit disgusted when I see celebrity kid’s birthdays costing more than my house. The amount spent on some of these cakes alone, could feed a village for a year. Angelina Jolie should be a role model for all celebrities.

- Lucia on

Very well put, Sheba! I couldn’t have said it better myself.

100,000 woooooow that is alot of dosh,!!wonder what the 3rd year birthday would cost lol. Hope they will teach you the value of money at the right age frame, as it is very important not to fall toooo rich and spoilt but hey that’s advice not judging lol, Not my say, but God’s say, He’s the judgement of all. Happy Birthday Suri you cutiee pie:):):) ooh so wish to bounce balloons with you. Bless you sweetie:):)

How do you know they don’t donate their money…more than likely they do!
