Kerry Katona hits back at tabloid claims

04/16/2008 at 02:31 PM ET

Kerry_katonaFormer Atomic Kitten Kerry Katona, 27, has hit back at tabloid claims that her 5 day-old son Maxwell Mark had to be weaned off cocaine. Speaking in her weekly OK! Magazine column she said,

I’ve given birth to my beautiful baby boy, Max! It started at 3 am last Wednesday when my waters broke. When we got to Macclesfield District General, the doctors wanted to wait to induce me so I was finally induced last Friday. Then at 3:30 pm I had the epidural in and then once I was dilated, I gave three pushes and he was out at 5:42. Max came out weighing 5 lbs, 4 oz, which is okay considering he was premature.

I couldn’t believe it when I read the newspapers and there was another nasty piece about me. I’m free of drugs despite what one particular paper keeps writing. I’m not weaning my baby boy off any cocaine. That particular newspaper hasn’t had the evidence to prove it, via the press complaints commission, but they still continue to write lies. I’m not going to let them spoil Max’s debut.

Max joins his four big sisters Heidi Elizabeth, 13 months, Kerry’s daughter with husband Mark Croft, and Molly Marie, 6 ½, and Lilly-Sue, 5, from her first marriage to Brian McFadden, formerly of the Irish boy band Westlife, as well as Keeley, from Mark’s previous relationship.

What a shame to have to deal with cocaine claims so soon after her new baby was born. What a tacky and classless magazine to even suggest such a thing.

I’m convinced these comments won’t be posted, but I don’t find it shocking that there have been some rumors concerning why the baby was so premature, considering his mother has openly been drinking and smoking during the pregnancy.

I don’t find it shocking either. I mean, a lot of the reports are based on what she was FILMED doing while she was pregnant. That said, I’m glad baby has turned out to be healthy, despite what the mom was doing to her body and the baby inside it while pregnant…a high-risk pregnancy at that.

Ironic that she’s a columnist for OK! magazine and does the exact same thing (spreading nasty rumours + commentary) about othere celebrities.

i dont know why the news of the world feels the need to constantly mae up s@*t about kerry. dont get me wrong,i’m not a fan-but i’ve been watching her tv programme+its clear she isn’t on any drugs other than her bipolar medication.
viewers have seen her gradually being increasingly affected by friends/family/strangers selling untrue stories about her.makes you wonder when it’ll end.
yes,she smokes, but that has already been defended by her,and on the programme we have seen her drink twice in an entire series, just goes to show how they embelish what little info they have to make these stories.
i saw the article in the sun that kerry is referring to,when i saw it i thought it was unfair+disrespectful to her and her family.
congratulations on the birth of maxwell kerry, hope you feel better soon x

I really feel for kerry, shes had it rough. Ive read her book and watched her programs. She’s not done any thing wrong except smoke duering pregnancy, and she admets that, but honestly with all the crap she has to put up with who can blame her. She’s kind. fun and down to earth, a normal person. she doesnt look down at peaple so why do they think they can look down at her, exspeacially when the know nothing about her, they just blow every thing up when it should be nothing. think your ace kerry. xx

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
