We have a new baby in our house. And that means a lotof changes, especially for our three-year-old. Heseems to be taking everything in stride, but there aresome times when his mama just can’t play with him thesecond he needs me, or when a diaper needs to bechanged without his help. And that’s when I bring outour basket of beautiful Playsilks from A Toy Garden.
If someone had tried to tell me two months ago that aset of eight square pieces of silk would protect mynewborn daughter from the curious hands of herbrother, I wouldn’t have believed them. But now …consider me convinced!

Sonja at A Toy Garden graciously sent me a set ofeight Playsilks to test with my son. As soon as weopened the package we were hooked! Silky squares inevery color of the rainbow — home-dyed in the US withJaquard low-impact dyes — spilled out onto our livingroom floor. Made of thick, high-quality 8mm Habotaisilk, A Toy Garden’s Playsilks simply beg to beplayed with. Trust me, I know. I spent hours beggingmy son to let me at them!
A staple in Waldorf classrooms everywhere, Playsilksare starting to find their way into children’splayrooms. And no wonder! They can transform atoddler into a pirate, a bedroom into a rainbow, and aDaddy into a fairy princess. (Dads can be princesses, too, you know!)Playsilks are the ultimate in creative play. My sonhas used his to make rivers, forts, wings, puddles, hats, parachutes, robes, volcanoes, babies, hot airballoons, and more. Truly, there’s nothing they can’tbe.
A Toy Garden’s Playsilks have held up to somerough play in our house, too. (Volcanoes can getpretty crazy sometimes!) The silk is just thickenough to be sturdy, while maintaining a delightfulairiness at the same time. These are high quality Playsilks, to be sure. And when you’re giving them tochildren, the quality is so important. No pirate Iknow wants to hold back in the middle of a battle justbecause he’s worried a Playsilk might tear!
When you get hooked on Playsilks and decide you needeven more than the eight colors in your set (the setincludes yellow, apricot, orange, red, pink, lavender, blue, and green), A Toy Garden sells many add-onthemed sets – designed to ensure that there are noduplicate colors – to help build your collection.I could go on and on about my love of these amazing Playsilks, but my son just threw a “firecracker” at me(his red and orange playsilks, of course) and I wantto go join the fun!
