Britax Diplomat: Compact, cute and perfectly safe

BritaxdiplomatWhen it came to choosing a car seat for my child I made the choice to go with a Britax long ago. Britax carseats come with excellent safety ratings and are extremely easy to install and use. My first Britax seat was a beautiful Ashley Floral print Marathon that made me smile every time I looked at the soft yellow, floral fabric cover! The Marathon fit perfectly in my large SUV and I never gave it a second thought. But when my husband got a new car, we needed another carseat. We wanted a more compact carseat, in a stylish print that wouldn’t take up the whole backseat. We found our answer in the Britax Diplomat!

Matt Damon, Jennie Garth, Britney Spears, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Garner and Brooke Shields have all been spotted using Britax carseats.

Dsc02754The first thing I want to address about the Britax Diplomat are the deep side walls and head support. When I looked at the Boulevard, the big sister to the Diplomat, I was concerned that the head support would block my child’s view and as she got older she would hate it. I want to say this is simply NOT the case at all. My child went from her Marathon to the Diplomat with no problem whatsoever. She still points out trees and dogs like she always did and I feel so much better that she is completely protected — The deep side walls and head support are their to provide Britax’s True Side Impact Protection!

The plush fabric isextremely comfortable and I love the prints that Britax seats come in.If you haven’t noticed by now, I hate sacrificing style in mychildren’s products and Britax makes it easy to be stylish AND safe! Since the Diplomat is a newer product, it doesn’t come in any girly florals, yet — I’m sure they’re coming — but we have the Taylor print and it’s a gorgeous, classic combo that I actually adore!

My favorite feature of this seat is the headrest/harness height adjuster. With the turn of a knob you can get a perfect fit for your child’s height without having to uninstall and take apart the seat. The side wings provide soft support to my child’s head and neck, and when my daughter slept in the seat I noticed her head didn’t roll around as much, as it had a spot to comfortably and easily rest.

I have to give it to Britax on their ease of installation. The first time I installed my Marathon it took me a bit of time, as I had to read the manual and then figure out how it worked in MY car. But after several installations of that original seat, I’ve mastered the Britax install and can do just about any seat. Though I always consult the manual to make sure I didn’t miss a step, since some seats might have unique installation features. Britax’s LATCH connectors are brilliant, you simply push them in where the LATCH is in your car and your good to go. Note: One thing I’ve learned is to push in at an angle, coming from the top, if you try to push straight back parallel with the seat it doesn’t connect. When you’ve got it in right you’ll hear a click, like a seatbelt, and with a firm tug you’ll know you’re locked in. After you’ve installed both sides you’ll want to place some weight into the seat to pull up on the straps and get the seat in place, I lean into the seat with my knee. Removing the connectors is easy too — pull on the straps to give it more slack and then push the red button to eject the connector (again like a seatbelt!).

One of the things that I love most about the Britax seats is the Versa-Tether system. This allows you to strap your seat in from the top, as well as from the bottom, and give it one final security latch. Read the instruction manual carefully for tips on how to use this feature, I’ve used it both rear-facing and forward-facing and loved how secure the seat was with it in place.

Britax has many options for carseats, from infant carriers to booster seats. To see the full array of what they offer and a comparison chart, click here. To buy your Britax Diplomat (or ANY Britax product), click here to find a retailer.

I just wanted to point out that the Diplomat does NOT have HUGS. HUGS are the rubber pieces that go on the harness around the chest clip of the Britax seats that have 65 and 80 pound limits.
