J.K. Rowling says daughter saved her life
Just over a decade ago, when she found herself on the brink of homelessness and battling depression, author J.K. Rowling contemplated suicide. But the creator of the Harry Potter franchise — now worth an estimated $1 billion — says that it was daughter Jessica Isabel, 14, who kept her from harming herself and instead motivated the 42-year-old author to turn her life around.
The thing that made me face the fact that this was not a normal state that I was in was probably my daughter. She was something that earthed me, grounded me, and I thought, ‘This isn’t right, this can’t be right, she cannot grow up in this state.’
Jessica is J.K.’s daughter from a previous marriage. J.K. is now married to Neil Michael Murray, with whom she has two children — David Gordon, who turned 5 yesterday, and Mackenzie Jean, 3.
