Rachel Weisz: I feel sexier after having a baby

03/01/2008 at 11:02 AM ET

Rachelweisz0115_cbbOscar winning actress and Definitely Maybe star Rachel Weisz, 37, recently sat down with UK’s The Sun for a chat. The fiancée of director Darren Aronofsky and mom to 20-month-old Henry Chance discusses body after baby, Darren as a dad, if they plan to have more kids, a parent’s fear, and being a working mom.

Click below for the CBB-related highlights.

On her body after the birth of Henry:

Ifeel sexier after having a baby. I think you feel a lot more confidentand much more appreciative of your body and what it’s capable of doing.I’ve got a lot more respect for it.

When I stopped breastfeeding Igained some [weight]. It took me more than a year to get back to whereI was.

On loving her son:

The biggest surprise is how much you love your child. It’s a new, different kind of love, a very powerful love.

On Darren as a parent:

He is such a good dad. It’s beautiful to see someone become a father.

On balancing being an actress and a mom:

Untila child starts school they are incredibly portable. The good thingabout being an actress is you have a huge amount of free time duringthe day because they take hours setting up shots. I get to spend lotsof time with him — more than if I worked in an office.

On a parent’s fear:

I think every mother gets panicked and thinks something is going tohappen. I put my hand on his back and stick my head in the crib so Ican hear his breath. Or I tickle his feet and get him to move. I thinkit’s natural for a mother to fear the worst. Nature put that there sowe protect our children.

More kids?:

I’ve got no plans to have another baby. I can’t imagine having another one now. But never say never…

I can’t believe he is almost 2 !

I have a lot of respect for Rachel. I wish them all the best! I admire how she seems to be taking time to enjoy him and not worry about more children now and yes, the worry and fear over your children never seems to go away. My 2 are 5 and 8 and I still check to make sure they’re breathing:-)

OMG he’s sooo big already. I haven’t seen him for aaaages! What a pretty boy!

Sarah’s note: He’s probably much bigger now! That photo is about 6 or 7 months old, it’s just to illustrate the post.

I totally agree with her on two things – I am a lot more appreciative of my body since giving birth too and the part about every parent’s fear – I’m exactly the same.

I’m sure when I become a mother I’ll be doing that too. However, I make sure my parents are breathing when they go to sleep. I’ll just make an excuse to kiss my mom (again) goodnight, and see if she is okay.

Yeah I’m gonna be crazy checking on my kids to make sure they’re breathing… I’m a worrier, we have two puppies and two kittys and I check if they’re breathing sometimes if I haven’t seen them move for awhile :-/
My parents told me my sister made it easy for them, she would make a little squeak noise with each breath… so Dad calls her squeaky (still, she’s 21 now!) and they didn’t have to worry as much as with me, the quiet sleeper!

Nice to hear Rachel is just like any other mother out there. I love her and I love hearing or reading anything about her. Thanks for this!

I remember being 8 months pregnant with our second child and telling my husband, “maybe we shouldn’t have another…how will we love her as much as August (our son)?” My husband reminded me it was a little too late to worry about it. 🙂 And sure enough, nearly two years later, the three of us don’t remember life without Martha!

Rachel saying “never say never” makes me think she’s open to another and may be thinking about it. And if so, I hope it’s soon…Henry is a cutie!
