Moms were a hot commodity on the red carpet at the 80th Annual Academy Awards. And most of them did the red carpet right, there was no shortage of color and the bumps were wrapped beautifully! Check out who we think had the right idea at this year’s Oscars.

Jessica Alba‘s plum-colored Marchesa dress was a card well played. The empire waist slightly hid her growing bump, but it was the feather detailing at the chest that was the biggest distraction. She held mum on the baby’s due date while talking with Ryan Seacrest, but we know that she’s just beginning her third trimester and looking fabulous. From her comments, we’re looking at a late May due date.

We love a celebrity mom who’s not afraid to wear a little color and Kelly Preston showed no fear in this bright yellow-orange, Roberto Cavalli dress. The joy of the color was that it washed her skin in a beautiful golden sheen and made her hair shine with natural highlights.

Some people think black dresses at the Academy Awards are boring, we beg to differ. We don’t care what the color is, it’s about how you wear and what you put it with, and Jennifer Garner did alright by us. Her long, black, Oscar de la Renta dress fit her magnificently and her accessories completed the look perfectly!

Cate Blanchett has a style about her that is classically stunning. She embraces her figure and outfits it perfectly, even when she’s well into her third trimester! She opted for a navy Dries Van Note dress, but hers didn’t attempt to hide her growing belly and instead highlighted it wonderfully. Cate is due in April.

While you couldn’t easily make out Nicole Kidman‘s baby bump, you couldn’t miss her glow. Ever since confirming that she and hubby, country music star, Keith Urban, were expecting in July, we’ve been hard pressed to catch her not smiling and glowing brightly. Her basic black, custom made Balenciaga dress was anything but, with the addition of a stunning 1,399-carat diamond, tiered necklace by L’Wren Scott.

We may be in the minority for this, but we loved Heidi Klum‘s custom-made, fun and funky, bright red dress from John Galliano. The dress fit her amazing figure very well and the red shawl just made it even more eye-catching.

There was something simple and yet stunning about Keri Russell‘sNina Ricci dress. The corseted top and flowing skirt was pure ballgown material and the pale champagne color actually worked on Keriperfectly.

Jillian Fink Dempsey, on the arm of Mr. McDreamy himself, husband Patrick Dempsey, wore a strapless coral column gown with an extended train. The color really popped and looked great with Jill’s flowing blonde locks. The ruching detail at her chest added some interest to an otherwise simple, classic dress.

The minimalist look was what Summer Phoenix was all about last evening. Supporting nominated husband Casey Affleck (and sitting next to sister-in-law Jennifer Garner during the ceremony), Summer chose a black empire waist gown with jewel detailing at the bust and a scoop neckline. The new mom accessorized lightly with a diamond bracelet and earrings, and kept her stylish bob simple, with just a few well-placed curls.

Calista Flockhart looked stunning in a floor length gown by Rare Vintage. The ice blue color looked great against her skin and thebrown sash changed the entire shape of the dress. Her champagne clutchtopped off the ensemble nice and cleanly.

The ladies all look beautiful!
Particularly like Heidi & Calista’s dresses

I thought Nicole Kidman was the epitome of class and elegance last night. Not just for her dress or being pregnant, but her demeanor and personality was beautiful. I think she is lovely person, inside and out.

Shelli on

I love her dress, she is on the best dressed list on my blog.

I LOVED Heidi’s gown… that red is just gorgeous! I really liked Jennifer Garner’s gown as well, she always picks the most classic pieces.

But I would have to say all the ladies above wore their dresses wonderfully! ;)

I thought Jennifer Garner looked wonderful.

Patrick Dempsey and his wife Jillian both look McDreamy. It’s no wonder their children are so gorgeous.

They were all so beautiful. Jennifer Garner was one of my favorites, and Heidi Klum, yeah, I loved that. I thought the ad during the program was funny. You could win her dress. I thought, great, what am I going to do with it?!

Seeing all of the celeb parents at the Oscars was pretty cool.

Still though, other than Angelina Jolie, another actress & mother-to-be who wasn’t there but could’ve been I suppose, was Halle Barry.

She was referenced enough in that skit with the two guys from Knocked Up, but I suppose she wasn’t there possibly because of her pregnancy* & because she wasn’t nominated for anything.

(*BTW how soon is Halle due? Is it some time in March?)

Keri Russell’s gown is my favorite of these dresses…anyone notice Vanessa Paradis (Johnny Depp’s girlfriend) in the background with an odd expression? I thought that was funny.

I loved Cate’s dress. The colour is fantastic, and the overall design is something I would definitely wear on the red carpet, pregnant or not!
Jennifer Garner looked beautiful, and her makeup and hair topped off the dress.

with the exception of keri russell, everyone looked amazing… was it just me or do the 2 girls on the right in keri’s picture seem to be saying the same thing we’re all thinking: “SOMEONE GET THAT GIRL A SANDWICH STAT!!” she looks unhealthy…

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
