Christie Clark Barnes blogs about daughter's name

Actress Christie Clark Barnes and husband Thomas Barnes are busy preparing for their daughter’s early April arrival, but one thing that they don’t have to worry about is her names.

Man, oh man … Six weeks left! Forty Two Days! Yikes!!!

Our daughter’s name will be Hannah Bella Barnes! We’ve had her name for at least six years. I know ‘Hannah Montana’ is extremely popular right now, but we won’t let that change our plans. Tom and I have had our children named way before we got married, and so far we haven’t changed our minds. But you never know.

The 34-year-old actress and her husband have been married since 2002.

Did you and your spouse have names picked out before you became pregnant?  If so, did you change your minds?

My husband and I picked out names for our children soon after we got engaged. Our son’s name was always at the top of our list for boys names. Now that we will be trying for baby number 2, we started talking about potential names. I’m a planner :)

I didnt pick out my daughters name until I was 7 months pregnant. I didnt even like the name I had picked so Im not sure where it came from. I named her Hannah and it was my least favorite name but it felt right to me. When I became pregnant with my son me and my husband picked his name a few days after we found out we were having a boy. My husband picked his first name which is Cameron and I picked the middle which is Michael after my dad.

We are always set on a name when we begin to TTC, and then change our minds and start panicking just before the baby is born. We had a name left over from our daughter (didn’t find out the sex before hand and thought we were having a boy), and thought that we would carry it over for our son, but then decided to go with something totally different. Now for this baby, another girl, we knew we wanted Sophia when we started TTC, but due to its overwhelming popularity, we are now totally stumped on what to name our baby girl, due in June.

My fiancee and I have our first child’s name picked out, and we’re not expecting yet. Our first will be Audrey Claire or George Bennett… and HE brought up names for kids before I ever got a chance. Think he’s more excited about it than I am :D

My husband and I were 100% positive we would name our daughter Kenzie Michaela (if we ever had one)…That all changed once I actually became pregnant- now I’m 8 months along and we’ve changed her name to Madelyn Victoria, names we had never even thought about before. Being pregnant and feeling her presence made me want to pick something special, not use the name we had picked for any hypothetical girl, if that makes any sense…

For our son, we had a different first name picked — but when he arrived, he looked more like his middle name. So that got changed. We went in with our daughter with a list of names thinking we’d look at her and know like we did with our son — that didn’t happen, so we just went with the one that had the most choices in nicknames.

My husband and I have middle names picked out (well, I picked them out a long time ago) and then a short list of boy names and a short list of girl names. I’m not pregnant yet, but hopefully will be soon and I’m a definite planner so I made him help me make a names list so we’d be ready lol

Even before we had any kids, my husband and I knew what we wanted to name our children. When we had our firstborn, a daughter, we decided to keep Ivy Evangeline, but when we had our second child, a son, we changed from Owen Charles to Vaughn William. I’m really happy with our choices, but our name swap for our son happened literally at the last second. We went into labor wanting Ivy and Owen and when the nurse asked his name we looked at each other and just knew. Ivy Evangeline and Vaughn William are our children, and I am VERY happy with it!

Now I’m pregnant with #3 (we don’t know if its a girl or boy) and we’re thinking of Annabel Veronica or Duncan Anthony.

My husband and I had loved the name Piper for years. When we became pregnant with our daughter, we decided to let our 2 sons assist us in naming her. They both hated Piper! Our daughter, Mia, is now 7 weeks old.

My boyfriend and I are very serious about our relationship and our future plans together. He brought up the subject of baby names first early in our relationship!!! He is in love with the idea of having a daughter…twins would put him over the moon (and they run in our families)! We have the names Grace Mattea and Audrey Claire picked out for girls (the middle names honor both our Italian and Irish heritage).

My husband and I picked names we liked when we had only been dating for 3 months. Not something that we did with other significant others, by the way. We didn’t have middle names at the time, but we both just dreamed of a family of 3 children: two boys, Jacob and Benjamin, and one girl, Caroline. We now have our two boys, whose names we’ve known for 10 years (but whose ages are 6 yrs old and 2.5 yrs old respectively), and we’re still waiting for a Caroline. Don’t know if we’ll try for a third quite yet, but we’ve brought the possibility of a Samuel into the equation, just in case. We thought those three boys names sound good together, especially since we call them one syllable nicknames: Jake, Ben, and maybe Sam.

Hannah Bella Barnes?! It doesn’t flow properly…

- CJP on

We had picked out a name…Ellison for a girl, Ellie for short, if it was a boy we would call him Eli. Well, we miscarried and from then on I couldn’t use that name, the baby we lost was Ellison. After that we didnt really pick out names until we knew the sex. With our first I remember writing out “Alysabeth” and loving it and it stuck, then with #2 on the way home from the ultrasound we knew it was a girl and my dh said , ” I like Alexandris” and thus, thats her name. With our 3rd I wanted Isabella Grace, but we went in to be induced and were sent home, we went out to dinner and I told dh I HAD to have this babies name be Grace because we almost lost her and its the Grace of God who kept her with us. With our #4 child, first son I wanted somewhere to have a name of John after my DH and that is his middle name, Caden, his first name was my moms idea.

Man between 4 children and 7 pregnancies total we went thru a TON of names.

- Courtney on

I have my heart set on the name Josselyn for my daughter someday. I can only hope my future husband likes the name as much as I do! ;)

Since I was a little girl I liked a small variety of names. I wanted Reagan for a girl and Gage for a boy, because I thought they were cool names at the time and I wanted to name my kids after horror movie icons because I am a big horror movie buff. Then as I got older and thought about the names themselves and found flaws. Reagan sounds like raggin’ if its said with an accent and I have relatives who have accents. And Gage when said to slow sounds like gay. When I got pregnant with a boy, I ran Gage past my b/f who didnt like it. But we still wanted to name him after a horror movie figure, so we went with Damien. Its a name that suits both a child and a man. Something he can grow into thats not forever cutesy or childish. Its rare too so he wont have to be called Damien M. And even tho its rare, its not too far out there, like Apple lol. So he is Damien Edward (Edward after my father who passed away when I was 16). We want future children, but we cannot agree on any names and we went thru hundreds of names..Im worried lol.

Once my husband and I got married 2 years ago, we started discussing children’s names for whenever (if) I got pregnant, and we were so set on 2 boys names that we absolutely loved, and 1 girls name. Well, how perfect/coincidental is this? I am 7 months pregnant with triplets. 2 boys and 1 girl. I have to admit, we were a little creeped out at how this worked out lol but we’re absolutely thrilled! Oh, and the names we have for our babies are: Ryan Matthew, Luca Alexander, and Carly Brianna.

- Jamie on

We did have names in mind years before we actually had our children, but we changed our minds totally once I was actually expecting them. We have 2 daughters and the younger ones name wasn’t even discussed as a possibility for the older one.

- Elaine on

I had names picked out since I was a little girl: Hannah Michele (family name), Molly Violet (after my 2 grandmas), and John “Jack” Michael (after my dad). Well, Hannah rhymes with our last name, so that one was out, unless I wanted to give birth to a comic book hero. My grandmother and my best friend are both named Molly, so we scrapped that one. And my husband is okay with John, but hates Jack. We have 7 Johns on my side of the family alone, so I didn’t want to use that one.

We ended up going with Sophia (it wasn’t popular at the time) with our first, deciding on it only days before she was born. We had our second girl name picked out almost immediately after our first one was born: Eleanor Alexis. Around the time of my ultrasound, we changed it to Lily (again, not popular at the time). We have had the name Maximillian “Max” picked out since before we found out we were having our first daughter. Now, with so many celebrities naming their sons Max, we are seriously considering another name if we ever have a boy.

- Dana on

I had my daughter’s name picked out since about the time I was 2-3 months pregnant with her. My son…well, we had a name picked out, named him that, and then legally changed it for so many reasons. If I have another baby, hopefully, we do have names picked out and have for years. My daughter is Kaitlyn Elizabeth and my son is Timothy Michael. If we have another girl it will be Jillian Dora Frances(Dora and Frances are after both great grandmas). If its a boy it will be Curtis Joseph…after the hockey player(hubby’s request). If we happen to be blessed with twin girls(we are doing IVF) the names will be Jillian Dora and Piper Frances. Twin boys would be Curtis Joseph and Brendan Scott. So, we have it all planned out.

My husband and I had a girl’s name picked out, Elora, long before we married and a boy’s name, Duncan before we got pregnant. We now are expecting our second boy, so the girl’s name won’t be used afterall.

For YEARS my husband and I had planned on Jenna Leigh as the name of our first daughter. We had a much tougher time picking out a boys name. When we finally picked out two boys names we liked both of them honored my father. We are VERY family oriented. Well we were pg 2 times and miscarried and finally we got past that 3 month mark and were able to relax a bit and I was placed on bedrest and warned of an early delivery. We decided on Evan Lucas for a boy and Jenna Leigh for a girl. Suddenly around the 7 month mark I woke up from a dream and told my husband that the baby’s name would be Kathleen Kelly (our second favorite girls name) because it honors my husbands family name. Given all the difficulties with the pg, I told him it was so important to me to honor our families with our child’s name as we most likely would not be having any others. That said, Kate’s (Kathleen Kelly) name suits her perfectly and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Jennifer, Madelyn Victoria is a beautiful name!!! I love them both. I’ve always wanted to name my baby Victoria… but my boyfriend doesn’t like it and besides that is last name starts w/ a “D” so her initials would be “VD” :( I never thought about using it as a middle name! haha… and just the other day I introduced the name Madelyn into the pickings.

We have had names picked out for several years: Jordan Dean (Jordan was my name if I had been a boy, Dean my BF middle name) and Robyn Dawn Emerson (Robyn b/c it is the *only* girls name we could agree on, Dawn = my middle name, Emerson my great-gma maiden name)
But now I am starting to want to change Robyn to something else… and my boyfriend doesn’t want to… so who knows what will happen -we aren’t even close to pregnancy :(

Alien, I know a lady who did name her kids Reagan and Gage… and she didn’t know about the horror film thing!!!! She just liked the names!

- Crystal on

My husband and I have names picked out if we ever have children. They honor family, so they probably won’t be changing. Josephine(Josie) Catherine=Josephine after his Aunt, whom we both adore, and Catherine is my sister’s name. Jerrod James=Jerrod after my stepdad, Jerry, and James, after his dad, James. It’s Italian tradition to name the first born son after his grandfathers. I would have been Walter Carl for that same reason if I had been a boy. Man, I’m glad I was a girl.

- Julie on

This may sound morbid, but I have loved the name Connor since I was in college and read about the tragic death of Eric Clapton’s son Connor and his fall from a window in a NYC condo(1991). I decided that day that if I ever had a boy, I liked the name and he would be called Connor. My wish came true in 1996!

- Nan on

I had names picked out since elementary school – they were even in my fifth grade time capsule! When I got pregnant, everyone said “you will change your mind” but I didn’t – Oliver is here and hopefully, Anabelle will come along one day as well! (A second girl – God willing – would be Eli Sophia and my next baby boy will be Freddie for sure:)

im still young and definitely not ready to have a baby anytime soon but i think its fun to think of what i would want my kids names to be. two of my favorite girls names are riley makenna and brooklyn rose (“brooke”). two of my favorite boys names are brody joseph and tatum patrick. however a lot of people say tatum is a feminine name- any thoughts??

- kasey on

My husband and I never really discussed baby names until I got pregnant with our first. Within a couple of weeks, we had decided on first & second names for a girl – Jordyn Ashlea – my only concern was that he find a different way to spell each name as both were considered more boys names (at the time). The same happened for our second daughter, Mayson Sheridyn, but our last daughter was a surprise as we had thought that she was going to be a boy and went in with a boy’s name (Cameron Jacob), but then we were blessed with another girl, and this time it was my choice, and as I had loved the name Connor forever, Connor Spencer she became, and I couldn’t imagine her with a different name!!!

I totally changed my mind! my husband alwasy liked the name Makayla and thinking we would never have a girl, since boys runin his family, i said ok. then we found out we were having a girl and i told him, look, i cant use that name, i hate it. i have always wanted to name my girl ryann elizabeth. he gave in , but wanted the middle name cristeen. we both compromised.

My husband and I have had our baby names decided for years. No kids yet, but I don’t imagine they’ll change. Who knows?!?!

- robin m. on

I am still young but like many others here, I have the names picked out that I would like to use for my children. I am positive that I will most likely have a son first and if that happens his name will be Alexander Maximillian. I don’t mind what sex the baby is as long as it’s healthy, we are pretty good at having boys as the first child in my family though and then a girl usually follows so let’s see if that comes true. Should littlesister follow her name will be Isabella Mary-Julie

I like those names quite a lot, I’ve just always liked Alexander and Maximillian sounds good with it IMO. Mary and Julie are two close friends of mine so of course I would give my daughter those names.
