Alex Rodriguez says daughters would be lucky to marry someone like teammate

New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, who came under fire recently after admitting before Congress that he used Human Growth Hormone (HGH) in 2002 and 2004, clearly still has a fan in teammate Alex Rodriguez.  The 32-year-old Yankees third baseman calls Andy "one of the greatest human beings" he’s ever met, and says that he’s exactly the type of man he hopes his two daughters — Natasha Alexander, 3, and a baby girl due in April — go on to marry.

I have two daughters — well, I have one and one on the way. If I had a daughter, I would want ‘em to marry Andy Pettitte. The age difference might be a little awkward, but in today’s day and age anything is possible.

Alex and his wife Cynthia were married in 2002.

this sounds weird but i think it’s just a language barrier…

Sarah’s note: Your language barrier? *confused* He’s just making a joke.

he’s saying “if” i had a daughter. what does that mean?

Sarah’s note: Yes, that’s definitely awkward English there.

It’s not a language barrier. Alex is American despite his Dominican heritage. He speaks perfect English.

You cannot pick apart the things that Alex says and dissect them. Unfortunately, he speaks from the heart and oftentimes it gets him in trouble and then he has to explain himself. The media eats this up. He lacks the ability to keep it professional like his teammate Derek Jeter – he knows exactly what to say and what not to say. Alex doesn’t.

I heard the audio from a Yankees fan blog. All he was trying to say was that he had nothing but respect for his teammate, Andy Pettitte. He went on to say that [if he had a daughter Andy's age], he would want her to marry Andy Pettitte. Meaning that his daughter Natasha and the one on the way are way too young to marry Andy. Besides, Andy is happily married and has been for quite some time.

If anyone is interested in the audio, I can tell you where to listen to it.
