Spice Girls perform at Madison Square Garden; Cruz Beckham shows he can dance

The Spice Girls ended their concert tour of the New York area with a bang in Madison Square Garden last night. The event became a family affair when their children, who were all watching from the front row, were pulled onstage during the song, ‘Mama,’ as the Girls have been doing as of late. Cruz Beckham, 3 tomorrow, even did some break dancing.

CBB reader Abby attended the show last night and sent in a recap of what happened.

I wanted to share how great tonight’s show was! As they’ve done in a few other shows, as the girls started the intro to "Mama," Baby [Emma Bunton] announced that they had some very special guests in the audience, and the place absolutely erupted in cheers!

Angel Iris, Bluebell, and Beau all got passed up to their moms, while Victoria [Beckham] helped lift up all three of her boys, [Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz] wearing matching red baseball hats.

Cruz was in a very good mood (probably because tomorrow is his 3rd birthday, as Sporty [Mel C] let everyone know) — and would not stop doing somersaults and handstands throughout the entire song! The girls could not keep a straight face as he kept bopping around — I wish I’d gotten a video but my camera had died!

I’m sure plenty of people captured it and will send it in, but I wanted to tell you to keep an eye out for the little show-stealer!

The Spice Girls have seven children between the five of them (Mel C is the only one without a child). Geri Halliwell has daughter Bluebell Madonna, 21 months, Victoria Beckham has Brooklyn Joseph, 8 ½, Romeo James, 5, and Cruz David, 3 tomorrow, Melanie Brown has Phoenix Chi, 9, and Angel Iris, 10 months, and Emma Bunton has Beau Lee, 6 months.

Anyone know who makes the headphones the kids are wearing?

- Smitten on

I just watched a clip of this last night on YouTube! I’ll include the address in case you want to post it for others to watch! Cruz was adorable, and quite the little breakdancer!

aww cruz is so cute is also really nice to see bluebell she hast been up on the stage with the rest before
aww little angel is geting so big has eddie muphy saw her yet

also was phonix there is dont see her in the pictures

- elidh cross on

Enough already! Get the kids off the stage. Sorry but I find this incredibly naff. If I was famous, the last thing i`d do is flaunt my childrn in front of thousands of people. We all know they`re mothers. What are they trying to prove???

- lili on

I love this family, that is so cute! But if Romeo’s got epilepsy is it really the best idea to bring him up on stage at a pop concert, with all the flashing lights?

- Kaycoo on

That is adorable. I wish I could see them in concert.

- Olivia on

That is a good question Kaycoo. I am now wondering the same thing

- Olivia on

I’m a little jealous that he’s only 3 and can already do that. Bluebell looks adorable with the mic.

They never confirmed Romeo’s epilepsy and if he has it I’m sure it’s being taken care of and they wouldn’t want to exclude him from all the fun activities.

- Meg on

That has got to be one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen! How adorable is Cruz! I simply love the entire Beckham clan.

- Amanda on

Kaycoo I don’t know for sure but I think Romeo’s epilepsy is one that he will grow out of. By the time he’s 8, it’ll be basically gone. Although he’s only 5 and a half I think if he feels comfortable up on the stage then he’s fine.

- Natasha on

I agree Natasha – here in the UK the papers did a big thing about it when she first started taking him on stage and the experts the press consulted said that, in a child, flashing cameras were very unlikely to bring on a fit, although of course every case is individual. I’m sure the Beckhams have consulted doctors and taken their advice

Adorable, love the Spice Girls. Always feel bad when it’s pointed out Sporty is the only one without kids!
Wow what a breakdancer Cruz is, especially for such a young age (3). Brooklyn is scouted to follow his Dad’s footsteps and be a footballer, I can’t remember what Victoria said she thinks Romeo will be, but Cruz looks like he is headed to be a dancer!
Lovely to see Bluebelle, I think this is the first time she’s done the activities on stage. Angel and Beau are adorable :)

- Starlet on

Adorable! My son just started hip-hop classes (he’s only 22 months) and I can’t wait for him to break it down! :) It’s the cutest thing ever!

The headphones are Peltor Kids Ear Defenders (or Ear Muffs). I actually got mine last summer from a UK-based Ebay site and had great service from them:

But then someone in my playgroup found them in the US here:

My daughter used them at a UCLA football game we took her to when she was 8 mos and also had them on for New Year’s Eve at 11 mos. They’ve worked really well and she has no problem with them.

Hope that helps!

- Brooke on

David have said previously that Romeo’s fits are now much controlled thanks to medicines he takes. He can still get a fit if the flashes stress him out too much which might be in the case of papz………but otherwise he’s fine.

Cruz is the most gorgeous little guy I’ve ever seen!!!

- Posh_Fan on

The headphones they are wearing are Pelter Kidz.

- Marci on

Awww, I was there last night and Cruz was soooo cute!!!!!!! He kept dancing as they were leaving the stage, he obviously loved the attention!

The other cute thing was Bluebell…after the cheering had died down a little bit you could hear her singing part of “mama” into her little microphone..so adorable!!

It was a great concert too, so much energy!

- laura on

At the end Mel C seems to say- “It’s Phoenix’s birthday tomorrow, let’s all wish him happy birthday”

I thought it was Cruz’s birthday, and since when was Phoenix a boy!?

- Esmé on

Mel C definitely says “It’s Phoenix’s birthday tomorrow, we have to wish her a happy birthday” and Mel B responds “Yeah!” I think its just her accent that made it sound a bit like “him.” Do Phoenix and Cruz share a birthday? He sure was cute flipping around! I saw them in Detroit and unfortunately they didn’t bring the kids onto the stage, but it was still an amazing show!

- Caitlin on

Just went to look it up – Phoenix’s birthday is February 19th, Cruz’s in February 20th!

- Caitlin on

Only a very small percentage of epilepsy is brought on by flashing lights, Romeo may be epileptic but not affected by being on stage. Also it could be controlled by his meds. I think it’s great that they bring their kids on stage, how horrible if he had to be left behind watching his brothers and mum
