Russell-Deary family out in Santa Monica

Actress Keri Russell, 31, her husband Shane Deary and their baby River Russell,8 months, were photographed in Santa Monica, CA on Wednesday. The couple celebrates their first weddinganniversary today.

They are wearing River in a Baby Bjorn Carrier in City Black ($80).

I think Keri and Shane make a great couple too.

I wonder why Keri hasn’t used a sling for a while. I preferred my Baby Bjorn with my kids, so I’m not judging, but she seemed to really favor the sling and now, all of a sudden, they’re gone.

Perhaps it’s because she wants River to sit up and see out more…that’s why I used mine. But the sling people I know are Sling People, if that makes sense. I just thought she’d be one of those.

Well wouldn’t a baby bjorn give you more support when they are heavier? Maybe thats why.

Sarah’s note: In my experience, Baby Bjorns killed my back after the baby was 5 months or so, and I changed to a pouch sling and did a hip carry, or used an Ergo. It spread the weight much more evenly over my back. That’s just what was best for me though.

also, baby bjorns are only rated to about 25lbs.

slings are for as big a child as is comfortable to carry – somewhere around the 35-40lb size.

I would think instead of switching to a bjorn, she would instead simply upgrade to a woven wrap sling, which distributes the weight better over the whole back with two-shoulder carries similar to a bjorn.

I have used wrap slings and love them.

My daughter is big for her age and at almost 4 still sometimes (namely when sick or just tired) loves to be in one and snuggle up.

I actually made the guaze one I still have and when she no longer uses it, we will put it in a corner of her room as a hammock or turn it into the curtains for her room.

Slings, whether bought or made are a true investment.

I’ve heard of parents making them into pillows or blankets, or using them to stuff a special pillow or as the start of a blanket or for a pillow case after they are no longer used for wearing the child because they really become similar to a lovey/blankie.
