Update: Ethan Hawke, girlfriend expecting a baby

Update:  It’s true!  People confirms, with the following quote from Ethan’s publicist:

I can confirm and they are thrilled. No further details will be made available.

Originally posted 4:45 p.m.: In Touch is reporting this afternoon that Ethan Hawke, 37, and his girlfriend Ryan Shawhughes, 28, are expecting their first child together. Ryan worked as a nanny for Ethan and his ex-wife Uma Thurman, who have two children Maya Ray, 9 ½, and Levon Roan, 6.  An unnamed source tells the magazine that both Ethan and Ryan are "over the moon" about the pregnancy.

Congrats to them, celebs are getting pregnant left and right! But.. he left Uma for the babysitter? Wow!

Former nanny? Weird. This is why I would never hire a hot nanny. I trust my husband, but then again, I don’t spend chunks of time away from home like Uma does.

I wonder if his kids are confused about all of this or if they were too young when their parents got divorced to have an opinion on it. I wonder whether Ryan will hire a hot nanny for her baby with Ethan…

“I wonder whether Ryan will hire a hot nanny for her baby with Ethan…”

Lol, PSB!!
I am starting to think though that there is seriously somethig in the water in Hollywood!

I didn’t see anything in the article that says how long they’ve been together or that he left Uma for the nanny so I think people are prematurely jumping to conclusions about that. It’s possible they didn’t get together until much later – some nannies do keep in contact with the families they used to work for, so it’s entirely possible that they didn’t become involved until recently.

Moral to this story: make sure you hire an ugly nanny! Remember the Sienna Miller/Jude Law fiasco, AND I think Robin Williams is married to his kids’ former nanny. Oh, and there’s Steven Segal who did it too.

Seriously, I hope they have a healthy baby and I wish them well. Uma seems no worse for the wear, in fact, her career’s on the upswing, and has been since she kicked Ethan to the curb.

I want to be a nanny for Brad Pitt..LOL! Hollywood Drama!! Congrats to them both.

Yea I would defintley hire an older/ugly nanny. Anybody hiring a young pretty girl, is looking for trouble. Congrats to them, this sure will be a busy year for CBB.

I work as a nanny, and could never imagine splitting up a family I work for, nor could, I believe, the vast majority of us nannies. I think it’s funny so many people’s advice is hire an “older” or “ugly” nanny. If you think like that, do you also try and make sure all your husband’s female friends and co-workers are ugly, too? I doubt it. And why is it automatically the mistress’s fault when a MAN leaves his wife for another woman? He is the one choosing to leave; they both share responsibility. Btw, I agree with Emily, you have no way of knowing when they got together. He split with Uma in 2004. It’s been a long time since then.

I think the “rumor” was that he cheated on Uma with a model from Montreal.
Anyhoo – congrats to them!

(I feel a bit jipped! There weren’t nearly this many pregnant celebs when I was expecting last year! LOL!)

Congrats to Ethan and Ryan. I think I need to move to Los Angeles! There is something in the water there ;-)

And yes, Uma is no worse for wear. I wouldn’t be too unhappy to be dating Arki Busson instead of being married to Ethan Hawke ;-)

I find it pretty interesting that everyone assumes she’s a “hot” nanny…. Couldn’t she just be a fantastically intelligent and kind woman?

- JenB on

LOL Lisa. I want to be Brad Pitt’s nanny too!! I think they could use more than one, because they have so many kids. Maybe we’ll both get lucky (wink wink).

Julie – please do NOT think we are calling all nannies wannabe homewreckers. Obviously the husbands are the ones responsible for straying.

As for hiring an ugly or older nanny – it’s SO not the same as wanting your husband to have ugly co-workers. Your husband’s coworkers aren’t hanging out in a robe or maybe going on beach vacations with him. They aren’t living (or practically) living in his house, and they don’t have as intimate knowledge of his home life and likes/dislikes. They don’t love his precious children like a nanny does. As a nanny, I’m sure you know it’s an intimate job.

Why put a piece of chocolate cake in front of a guy on a diet? I’d rather put a nice healthy bunch of carrots there instead :>

- PSB on

I certainly wish them a healthy pregnancy, but…how confusing for his children to see their father have another child with a woman who once took care of them.

I don’t think it has anything to do with Ryan being a “hot nanny”, I’ve seen her picture and she is in no way hot, same with Jude Law’s nanny. Not to be mean, but those women are average at best.

GL to them though!!
