Joel Madden: I had no idea what love even was until Harlow came along

Nicolerichie_n_b_gr_30_cbbRocker Joel Madden, 28, is definitely a proud daddy now that he’s almost two weeks into fatherhood with Nicole Richie, 26, and their new daughter Harlow Winter Kate, 12 days. He blogs,

She’s already growing too fast! So I am at home writing this blog before I head [out to do some work]. I swear it’s so hard to leave during the day, but always so rewarding to come home to the little family.

I’ve always been a guy who loves to love. Probably one of the things that define me outside of my work is love. I had no idea what love even was until Harlow came along.

Me and her mother feel like the luckiest two people alive right now. This time in our life has been amazing. We both look at our little girl every single moment everyday and know there is nothing we wouldn’t do to protect her and her perfect little innocence.

It seems like you turn on the TV, or get online and it’s all bad news.We don’t want her to know any of that yet. I actually never want her to know any of the pain and suffering we see out in the world everyday, or how harsh people can be as a result of it. Having this baby has really made me realize we all start out that way, then somewhere along the way something happens and people go one way or the other. But all started out sweet and innocent just like my little daughter.

The world could really make you bitter if you let it, but that’s where music, and art come in to save the day. You’ve got to surround yourself with the things you love…I want my kid to grow up around that.

My heart goes out to Heath Ledger’s family. Too young. Too soon. Too loved to be gone. It almost seems pointless to say this with the state of the media today, but I hope people will respect what his child and her mother are going through right now and give them space. May God be with them.

With tears in my eyes, I have to say, Joel Madden has already proven that he is an AWESOME father. This is one lucky child!

Very nice of him to say!!

He seems very sweet. It was lovely of him to take a moment from his own happiness to pay his respects to Heath’s family. And I wish the press would leave poor Michelle and Matilda alone. It’s one thing to snap photos of healthy and happy celebs, but to invade the privacy of people in mourning is really sad.

awww, the comment he wrote about Heath was very sweet of him… and i totally agree, the media needs to back off and let his family grieve.

it certainly sounds like baby Harlow is a daddy’s girl already :) so cute!!

I loved when he was talking about Harlow.. He said Me and her Mother .. instead of Me and Nicole.. for some reason i thought that was really sweat. and for that Heath Ledger comment. Wow he truly is a good guy. I miss Heath.

He sounds like he’s going to–and already is–a great dad. And extra kudos for his comments about letting the Ledger family grieve. They don’t need the media in their face every minute of every day!

I remember before I was a mother how I wasn’t the biggest fan of “the news.” It’s always been over dramatized. But, after I had children, I realized how detrimental the news was to my head and my soul. It made me feel so incredibly fearful and negative. So, I stopped watching it. I choose which stories I want to follow and if the title itself sounds like something that will make me feel awful, I don’t read about it or watch it. I always pray for my fellow man and for any parent or child in a bad situation. But Joel, do your self a favor and don’t bother with the news. Just continue loving that beautiful little gift from God and stay positive. God Bless Heath Ledger and his family!

OMG. Such a beautiful tribute to and from a very special man. In recognition of his greatest gift, he also takes the time to express sorrow and concern for a fellow human being and the loved ones he left behind. God sent you a precious baby to give you unimaginable joy (the best is yet to come Joel). Congratulations again to you and Nicole and enjoy your gift from God.

Dad Said It

"Harper was a name that we've loved for a long time for a couple of reasons. Harper is an old English name, and Victoria's favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird."
