Harlow Madden gifted with crystal-studded Converse sneakers

Converse As if there were any doubt that Harlow Winter Kate Madden, 11 days, would follow in her mom’s trend-setting footsteps, Kitson Kids is doing its part to make it official.  The Beverly Hills boutique recently gifted Harlow’s parents Nicole Richie and Joel Madden with a pair of Converse’s white crystal ‘Star’ shoes ($98).  Made of genuine leather, the shoes feature crystal-studded toes with two black studded stars on each shoe.  The couple also received Trumpette’s Black Ballerina Bootie socks ($18) and a cashmere-blend pant ($68) & hoody ($145) set by Amber Hagen;  The pink and red hoody is reversible and features a heart design on each side.

The bootie socks are cute.

I hope that all these companies and boutiques that gift celebrities (who can well afford anything they want) with expensive items also make matching donations to charities benefiting needy families.

i agree BostonMom. it’s like the more famous you are, the more free stuff you get. i think it’s kinda ridiculous

Those shoes are sooo cute! Unfortunately I don’t have a kid so buying them wouldn’t make any sense now, would it? Or I could buy them and store them away and hope they’re still fashionable a couple of years down the road…

- Anna on

It is rather ironic. (Like gifting rooms – Can you imagine being pregnant and receiving box after box of the best baby things in the world!! What a dream!)

I do believe I read here recently that they were asking for donations to their charity in lieu of gifts.
I don’t think we’ll hear what happens to these gifts, but maybe they’re giving them to someone more in need than them! Especially if they’ve come from a department store and not someone they know personally.

Nicole and Joel have done a lot for charity throughout the pregnancy, which is great. They have actually been really wonderful examples to other celebs. But it’s the manufacturers and stores that also need to be responsible, good example as well. When they “gift” and item to a celeb, it is so they can claim that such and such star baby uses their product. It is practically free advertising that makes “regular” people want to buy their product…or, I should say, overspend for their product (any practical parent will tell you that $98 for shoes that are outgrown literally within weeks makes no sense). So I think they should make a monetary contribution, equal to the amount of the product gift, to a charity.

They give away so much stuff to celebs because people like us read blogs like this one!

how ironic…. $98 will buy one pair of shoes for an already privileged child… shoes that she’ll grow out of in a few months

but did you know that $98 could also buy more than $1,000 worth of warm clothing for children in less fortunate circumstances.

if you are disgusted by this figure like i am, check out worldvision.org for ways that you can help.

I thought they weren’t accepting gifts?

Sarah’s note: They aren’t, from what I understand. Companies send out press releases on stuff like this to get themselves attention.

- Sarita on

As much as they have done for charity – good grief! They still have a new baby and they can still have adorable little things for them :) On a side note – so cute to see “11 days” posted :) Besides, if she is anything like my son, she will wear them once and (since babies don’t walk) all of her little shoes that she outgrows in two weeks will be “brand-new” and ready to be donated to more waiting little feet :) One more side note – these socks make me crave a little girl soooooo badly!

- brannon on

they cannot control what companies want to send their way, so chill people. $98 is a crazy amount for baby shoes, but does that REQUIRE them to donate money, no, they did not ask for this gift. If they do donate above what they already have, then so very good for them; what a nice gesture.

Cindy, it’s not the gift receivers that people are commenting about, it’s the gift givers. Is the baby even an honest thought when some of these companies gift, or is it more about just having the product seen?

- Jen on

good point, jen. i hadn’t thought of that.
