Denzel Washington says he tells kids to overcome hatred

In a Monday morning appearance on The Early Show to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, actor Denzel Washington said he’s taught his four children — John David, 23, Katia, 20, Olivia and Malcolm, both 16 — that "there are going to be obstacles" in life.  Denzel adds,

Someone may not like you just because they don’t like themselves.  But don’t you get bogged down.  Don’t be a hater. Don’t let hatred destroy you. Overcome it, move on, educate them, if you will.

Denzel, 53, and his wife Pauletta have been married since 1983.

Denzel strikes me as a good dad and he seems so nice when he is on talkshows, so down to earth. Plus I think he is a wonderful actor.

Hmmm…maybe his daughters boyfriend that he was giving such a hard time to should remember that. “SOmeone may not like you just because they don’t like themselves.”

I love his advice. Might use it the next time I’m dealing with someone who is full of so much hatred and for no real reason if only to make them feel better, etc…
