I’m not a mother so I am only speculating but I’ve heard it is bad for the baby’s teeth to use a bottle so long. Is this true? I thought it was standard to ween off the bottle around 12 months.

She is so darn cute! I was defending the no coat thing…maybe they toss a blanket over her, maybe the car is right outsite the door, etc. but I did just see pics on another site of them. Tom and Jerry Seinfeld both had on coats and Suri was just in a short sleeve dress! So I am going to join the bandwagon…please put a coat & hat on Suri.

Give a mom a break! My son was on a bottle until 3 and a half, want to lock me up? My son has a mild form of autism and having his bottle was an attachment issue and it was one of the only ways to ensure he had nutrients as he had texture issues as well. I think he won’t grow up to be a murderer or something sheesh!

Suri is always being schleped around and I am of the mind that perhaps some of these situations are good to have a babysitter at the very least. Children need structure and I’m sure Suri’s life is taken day by day and perhaps the only thing she knows for sure is her bottle will always be there for her? Just speculating. I have seen pics of her with a sippy I think though.. they were out with her late at night so maybe they do bottles before bed is all? Why are we all judging them for it anyhow? Have all of you raised kids perfectly without making a single mistake?

I’m not a fan of tom and katie, but this bottle bashing is cruel and uncalled for. Unless you are a perfect parent (oh and you ARE NOT) you don’t have room to criticise.

Laura, you said it all. I knew the moment I saw this pictures that the bottle conversation would start. Let babies babies and kids be kids.
You’re not a perfect parent, they are not perfect parents…and I’m sure they have a pediatrician (and they can afford a very good one), so…
And I know kids who used bottles until they were 3 to, and they’re perfectly normal now.

A lot of people have been questioning the no coat thin recently. If you look closely, the girl wears layered clothes and knit tights. They go straight from the hotel into an already heated car which is waiting for them and then into a restaurant or wherever. Nitpick nitpick nitpick.

She DOES seem to wear coats when Katie is walking her up streets and whatnot if that makes people feel better.

Then again, Jennifer Garner gets grief when Violet doesn’t have on mittens even though she has on a huge puffy coat and a blanket and a hat over the child.

I’m sure she won’t be bringing a bottle to her college dorm I read somewhere as Scientologists it is their belief to give a child a bottle as long as desired, and they make their own formula (I think using barley or something). Anyway, Suri looks happy and healthy – so that’s all that matters!

The moment I saw these pictures I decided I had to comment because I knew there was going to be a lot of bottle bashing going on. My little girl is 20 months old and she still takes a bottle, and she is breastfed. I feel like if she is still breastfeeding why can’t she have a bottle too? I swear she will not have a bottle on her wedding day, so what is the harm? People need to chill out. Oh, and as far as the teeth thing goes, my dad is a dentist and my child still uses a bottle at almost 2 years old…GASP!!! She is not going to have teeth problems from taking a bottle for 10 minutes a couple of times a day.

According to multiple sources, the concoction in Suri’s bottle is barley water, milk and corn syrup, which Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard advocated as being healthier than formula and breast milk. Ick. And crazy. Everyone knows that corn syrup is horrible for kids. Such a shame.

what surprises me is that they take a toddler out to fancy restaurants every night. she may be a celeb baby but kids are kids, and they aren’t usually pleasant in restaurants, anyway i wonder what’s on the kids menu at these places? i do feel bad that her parents don’t seem to make an effort to keep her away from the media, that’s a lot to handle for a small child.

I don’t see anything wrong with Suri having a bottle. Some kids still are being breastfed at this age or even older. Whichever the case I think it’s up to the actual parents of the child to decide what’s best for the child. It’s not like she’s going to have a bottle forever.

Intelligence has nothing to do with whether a child is ready to be weaned off the bottle or breast anyway.

But when D. Letterman asked Katie, “what do you think of your daughter going to be an actress?” and she said, “I love it, I can’t wait!” or something like that. Not that children can’t be exposed to the limelight since they basically already are but it seems to me that they put Suri out there to basically get noticed. She is a doll and I could see her doing movies one day with her daddy and mommy like Will Smith and Bruce Willis’ daughters do but I hope they let this child be a child.

Well, I will admit that I am not a perfect mom, but as mind-set and as “educated” as Tom seems to be, you would think that he take his daughter’s dental hygiene more serious. Sure, many parents do it, but come on- almost 2 years old. that seems lazy. as for laura, celebrities will always be photographed and people will have their own opinions- so let them have their own opinions. Just like you have your own opinions about tom and katie, so do we. Also, I don’t think it is a very good habit to keep you toddler out late at night. that is setting themselves up for some restless nights if and whenever they decide to change their schedule.

The difference between breastfeeding at this age and bottlefeeding is how the jaw works. Breastfeeding doesn’t interfere with development of the jaw like a bottle does. That being said, it’s their decision if they let her use a bottle or not.

I for one am not going to judge them with regards to Suri being out late at night. My husband works overnights so our daughter stays up late (she’s 2 and bedtime is between 10pm and midnight right now) because it means she gets more time with daddy. Our pedi said as long as she isn’t getting less hours of sleep it doesn’t matter when those hours occur. So we are late to bed and late to rise. Maybe their family is the same.

I think people are way too judgemental. My son is almost 4 and will still sometimes take a sippy cup of water with him to bed. I let him take a cup once and he knocked it off his bedside table in his sleep, water everywhere!!!

Maybe it is the issue of having a sterile bottle, with those playtex dropins. Maybe they dont want her to have a sippy cup?

On a side note, my friends daughter is four and a half, and still drinks a bottle at night. It is a comfort thing, her daddy died when she was 18months and she was very traumatised. She has the whitest sparkliest cutest smile you have ever seen, gorgeous little girl. over 4 years of bottle drinking has not rotted her teeth.

If you take care of your kids teeth from the time they erupt, they should be fine. It is parents who let their kids go to bed with fruit juice that are making a mistake. Fruit acids are much worse than milk.

Actually Suri should NOT be sucking a bottle at her age. It has nothing to do with good or bad parenting but whats best for the child! When a child is on the bottle too long it henders their speech. Sucking from a bottle only lets her use the front part of her mouth. When a child uses a sippy cup or regular cup for drinking it causes all the muscles in their mouth to be used. Which in turn helps them to form their blends and other sounds needed to talk and form other words than just mama and dada. Try sucking a bottle at one sitting as an adult..it would be hard. My sister works with babies for speech therapy! Children should be off the bottle by 12 months old at least!!

Nikia- Going by recent comments that Katie has made, I don’t think we have to worry about Suri’s speech too much. Katie recently said that Suri’s first words were “mama” and “dada” followed by “everything else!” and that she is “talking up a storm!”. Katie also says that Suri even asks questions, like “What’s that?”

In otherwords, Suri certainly doesn’t seem to have a speech problem. Anyway, as I have said before, they do seem to be trying to wean her on to a sippy cup, as there have been pictures of them with one before.

brannonb- Yes, she did….But I see nothing wrong with those comments. She’s clearly very proud of her little girl and was probably bragging a bit….Which is something that I think just about every parent does at one time or another. To Katie, Suri probably IS magical (not in the literal sense, of course!) and an amazing artist!

As for the “strong woman” comment….That sounds like something my own mother might have said about me as a toddler. She is very feministic, and it sounds like Katie is as well.

Nikia, How do you know that Suri only uses a bottle, all day long? Perhaps she uses a cup during the day and the bottle is only for comfort at night. My son is less than a month younger than Suri and he uses a bottle for nap and bedtime. The rest of the time he uses a sippy cup. And you know what? Not only is he talking way above his age level, but he also has healthy teeth.
