Lionel Richie proud of daughter Nicole Richie and Joel Madden

Reality star Nicole Richie, 26, and rocker Joel Madden, 28, made singer Lionel Richie extremely happy when they made him a first-time grandfather on Friday, January 11th. The 58-year-old released the following statement in regards to birth of his granddaughter Harlow Winter Kate,

While it may take me a moment to adjust to being called granddad, I am extremely happy and proud of Nicole and Joel.

Lionel added that,

Harlow Winter Kate Madden, the newest and most beautiful addition to the Richie clan, is a lucky little girl. She was surrounded by a great deal of love at that hospital as she entered the world. Nicole and Joel are going to be wonderful parents.

Oh, I can’t wait for the photo shoot!!!!! Any idea when we might be seeing photos? I hope we get a sneak peak of their house, as well… But most of all, I can’t wait to see Harlow Winter Kate – I’m sure she’s divine!

I am sooo sooo proud of ms. nicole richie! she is so beautiful inside and out. she has matured and become such a responsible adult. sometimes it just takes a good charlotte “MAN” to bring the best out of you. i know that the baby girl is adorable. Mixed babies are always the cutest! By the way the name Harlow Winter Kate is FABULOUS!!

I don’t think the child will be “mixed”… nicole was adopted as a child and there is only speculations of who her biological parents are. I’m sure that little one looks like a doll. When lionel talks about his daughter you can “feel” his love for his daughter come off the pages…it’s just soo sweet.

Of course the baby will be of mixed race, her mom is. I think people that have some colour are usually cuter than other people and have always wished for some colour for myself!

Nicole is gorgeous so I can’t wait to see this baby. Not sure of her ethnic heritage but I believe she considers herself “African American” doesn’t she? Maybe this is because of her adoptive family but I thought she had discussed being of mixed heritage before? Regardless, she has an exotic beauty that I hope she has passed on to little Harlow Can’t wait to see these pics!

Nicole has talked about her biological parents. Her father is Pete Escovedo, who is black and mexican, and her mom is black and white. But being mixed has nothing to do with it. The main thing is Harlow is VERY loved!

I don’t want to beat a dead horse but Harlow Winter Kate is of Mixed Race. Joel is white and Nicole although self identifies as black is black and mexican. I think it is disrespectul to just erase a whole side of Harlow’s family by infering that she is white.

Take a look at Nicole’s baby pictures when she has her natural brown curly hair, she looks a 100% like a black girl.

Sweet! A baby always brings out so much love and joy. My own Dad is a goof ball when it comes to my kids..I can already tell that Lionel is going to be a wondrful Grandpa.

Do you guys know anything about this??
apparently, a nurse took pictures of Harlow Winter Kate 30 mins after she was born and sold the pics to some blog. Do you know if this pictures are authentic and if the Richies are going to do something about this because its such an invasion of privacy!!!!

Who cares what race this little life is. This sweet baby will have the best of all worlds with all the love she is now getting. I am a big old fan of L. Richie for as long as I can remember. I want to add that who ever raises you all of your life is your parent. My husband was adopted he does’nt know who his bio. parents are and he does ‘nt care. Real parents are who raise you & went through all the hard times and tears with you. God be with the Madden & Richie family.
