Katie Holmes says Suri is 'very strong, and bright'

In a Monday morning appearance on Good Morning America to promote her new film Mad Money, actress Katie Holmes said daughter Suri, turning 21-months on Friday, is "delightful."  Katie told Diane Sawyer that Suri’s first words were ‘mama’ and ‘dada,’ followed quickly by "everything else!"  Said Katie of Suri,

She’s a great mimic … And now she’s talking all of the time. So she’s saying, ‘Who’s that? Who’s that?’

Diane then treated Katie to a clip of a previous interview with Katie’s own mom, Kathy, who said her daughter was a "handful" as a toddler.  Katie used to insist on choosing her own outfits for preschool, and Katie revealed that Suri — whom she describes as "very strong, and bright" — is also now picking out some of her own clothes to wear each day.  The 29-year-old told Diane that Suri isn’t the only one having fun, however.

We were at FAO Schwartz last night.  We got in and we went and were running around and eating ice cream and playing with the toys.  Tom and I were playing with a lot of the toys ourselves.  It’s a lot of fun for the adults!  We were there for hours.

Suri is the first child for Katie and husband Tom Cruise; Tom also has two children, Isabella, 15, and Connor, 12, from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.

Wasn’t the exact statement Katie said:

“Suri is a really strong woman”?

If so…a little weird.

Other than that – cute baby, as usual.

Sarah’s note: No, that was something she said at the Glamour kickoff party last week. This post was about GMA this morning.

Ah, thanks Sarah for clearing that up. I guess when you’re interviewed 5000 times in one week for a movie’s release, like Katie has been, you’re bound to paraphrase yourself.

I’m sure Suri is indeed a strong person, but “woman”? Not for another 16 years :>

I love reading about Suri – I think she is a beautiful celebrity baby…but I have to be honest, I watched Katie’s interview w/Diane Sawyer and it was like watching paint dry…she was not captivating at all…she seemed very guarded in her answers and was very hesitant when responding – I could not put my finger on it but it was very strange….

Katie seems sooo different. The Katie when she made Mad Money and the Katie in that interview are like two completely different people. Watching that interview I had a hard time believing that that was Katie Holmes!

Katie didn’t really seem like herself, words seemed rehersed, she seemed at pains to describe FAO and how her & Tom had so much fun because they’re “so young”
Suri is cute & beautiful but I do wonder about her life, growing up in Scientology, Kate seems sucked in

I too found her interviews this morning very strange. I can’t quite figure out why but something was a little ‘off’. The way she all the sudden went from talking about Suri and the things she says and then…..”FAO Swartz last night – Tom and I were running around and playing with toys….” O-K-A-Y. It’s almost like she had to find a way to sqeeze in there that they are so fun and carefree….it was WEIRD. I do really like her but lately she’s very bizarre. She needs her ‘spark’ back. And just because she’s a mature wife and mother doesn’t mean she has to sit there perfectly still and not move and not laugh and not have any feeling in her words. That’s called being human. I hope she finds herself again…..

Yeah, I’m with you guys. That interview was very off. Honestly, I couldn’t bear to watch the whole thing. After she was done talking about Suri, I clicked it off. Even that small bit of interview came across as “staged”. For someone who was so happy on her wedding day, it sure didn’t come across that way when she said it. Either way, Suri’s a gorgeous little girl, and I hope she keeps that carefree spirit she seems to have.
