Alastair Stewart rushed to hospital with high fever

01/08/2008 at 03:58 PM ET

Stewartfamily A high fever brought on by an upper respiratory/ear infection led frightened parents Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster to take their 2-year-old son Alastair Wallace to a Florida emergency room over the weekend.   According to Britain’s Daily Mirror, the couple drove the toddler to the hospital themselves after Alastair’s temperature reached 102 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday morning.  Said Penny,

Alastair had been suffering with a high fever, so was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach.  He was diagnosed as having an infection.  The hospital was very thorough and their quick diagnosis and response now has him comfortable and responding well to the antibiotics at home.

Alastair is the first child for the Rod, who turns 63 on Thursday, and Penny, 36; The couple wed in June 2007.  Rod also has six children from previous relationships.

Oh my! I’m so sad to hear about kids and especially toddlers who suffer from things like this!! I hope Alastair is better now

Poor kid.
Although 102 degrees really isn’t that high for a toddler (we treat those with a dose of fever reducer) — I wonder if they couldn’t get it to go down. I do hope he’s feeling better now! He’s a cutie!!

We don’t send kids home from daycare until their temp reaches 101.5, so going to the hospital for a 102 degree fever seems extreme. Sounds like they could do with reading on children a little.

You know I am a big fan of Penny Lancaster. She’s seen what has happened to Rod’s older kids (ie living off his money without an education or career) and she’s really dedicated to raising Alastair without help. I understand she has some help, but good for her for not taking the easy, Hollywood way out.

Seriously? 102? We took our 3 month old (at the time) son to the hospital with 105 and they laughed at US and said it was totally unnecessary.. they gave him tylenol and sent us home (after torturing my son witb lots of pokes for blood and urine.. they could have just said rather than ring up a huge bill please try tylenol?). We were on vacation in USA and we live in Netherlands so our insurance makes us pay up front ($500 for that unnecessary visit) and get paid back later.

Our baby book said that once a fever in a 0-3 month baby hits 100.3 you need to see a dr asap. This was midnight at his tempo was 105 and we thought we needed to get to someone right away. Better safe than sorry, but 102 for a toddler? That’s laughable for sure!!!

My son has had 104 as a toddler and we gave some tylenol when it got uncomfortable and he was fine. We don’t medicate unless it’s not coming down since the body raises the temp to naturally fight off viruses.

I agree with the poster who said they need to learn some things about parenting. Did it not even occur to them to call on the phone first to see if it was even warranted? Naturally they got 1st class treatment as they are celebrities.. sigh

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
