Mia Hamm: Motherhood 'wears you out'
Olympic gold medalist and former soccer star Mia Hamm, 35, and Los Angeles Dodger Nomar Garciaparra, 34, are parents to 9-month old twin daughters Ava Caroline and Grace Isabella, who beginning to wave, have started to shake their heads no, and are close to crawling. Mia tells The Daily Breeze,
Our girls are very well-behaved — we’re really lucky with how they are — but I’ve never been this exhausted. No matter how much I played, I knew that in soccer I’d get one day off a week, I’d get some weeks off once in a while. Here, they don’t care. They don’t care if it’s a holiday. Sleep in — what’s that?
Inever thought I’d be happy waking up at 6 in the morning. No matter how many books you read, it doesn’t prepare you. You have tobe able to figure it out on the fly. It’s unpredictable — somethingnew, wonderful and unexpected.
However tired she may be now, Mia found the transition from soccer star to wife of a baseball star and mother of twins to be a simple one.
It was very easy. [Soccer] was something that kind of controlled my life — everything you eat, how much you sleep all affects what you do. I wanted to spend time with my family. I wanted to see Nomar play. A lot of things I missed I didn’t want to miss anymore.
Ileft on the right note. I still loved it and the game didn’t owe meanything else. But now it was time to put my passion into somethingelse.
