I am cracking up at these comments and those by Karisa...First of all we all gain weight with our children differently....I gained 15 pounds with my second child compared to 76 with my first. We all have different bodies and eating habits in different periods of our lives. You can't imagine gaining that much weight and I hope that it did not happen to you. There are several reasons why I gained that much weight and possibly why Carnie did as well. I stopped eating any item that contained sugar. I only drank water, no juice or cokes or even diet drinks. I didn't have surgery to just do it half way. I lost 200 lbs even gaining with my son I didnt reach 200 lbs. When I found out I was pregnant I put some items into my diet due to craving and just to do what I thought was best for my child. I cut out the sugar free items I was eating and replaced them with sugar items...I still did low carb and diet yogurts but I was still cramming on the pounds. It was a change in my diet that got me. Not how much I was eating. I was still eating a very healthy diet. But my body was used to not having sugar and fat free items and just making those changes in cheese juice, yogurts milk, which I never drank before, etc is what caused me to pack on the weight . So, it is normal for some bodies to gain weight and for some to not. Perhaps you did not cut out all of the items that they suggested so when you got pregnant there were not many things to change. I lost my weight after my son. Had my daughter 2 years later and gained 15 that I can not seem to shed. So, I hope it doesnt happen to you but for those it did happen to I think its great that you took care of your body and your baby.

And by the way my OB never said one word to me about gaining that much weight with my son.

I had GB 4/26/06 and the most I lost was about 100lbs. Had a baby in May, gained about 20lbs, lost 26lbs within the fist two weeks after. I am now gaining weight steadily. I know it's probably because I have been too tired or busy with the baby to exercise and all I want to eat is candy. Ugh! For some reason I don't have the dumping syndrome, which I hate. Candy has always been my downfall. I would've welcomed the DS. Also, it seems like I can eat a lot! I can eat almost two whole breakfast burritos. OR probably 1/2 to 3/4 or a dinner entree. Is this normal? Do you think if I cut out the sweets and exercise everyday my weight loss will kick in again?

I love children and grew up during the Brady Bunch period and dreamed of having 3 boys and 3 girls; I'm 1 boy and 1 girls shy of that dream.

I too had GB just this past June. I've lost 27 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks and I feel horrible.
Last, I use to run marathoners. Now, with so little in my stomach. I don't know how to train, rather, eat for a marathon and during a marathon. I want to jump back in and start running and fundraising for cancer patients, but I am afraid because of the nutritional part of training.

I think you would have to really eat a lot of carbs, being a GB person or not, to gain approx 70lbs when pregnant. While I agree it is what you eat, it is also how much and how often. I totally eat carbs, I actually added toast and oatmeal back into my diet after 2 years of abstaining since being pregnant(because of cravings and getting more grains in).

I just really think she had to be eating a lot of carbs...but like Amy, Carnie has been my inspiration! I have learned so much from her and because of her weight gain in pregnancy I am really trying to be aware of what and how much I eat.

Congratulations to all of US for taking control of our lives in such a great manner!!! And congratulations on your pregnancies!

For years I followed Carnie Wilson as a role model both heavy and post gastric bypass. I watched as she shed the weight, found herself and became a mother....all of this inspiring. I also listened as she said she was a good gastric bypass patient and not such a good pregnant gastric bypass patient. I had gastric bypass in June of 2005 and lost about 150 pounds over the next year and a half. I also have a son who is now 6 and was an extremely high risk pregnancy when I weighed 340 pounds, had high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, and pre-term labour. Thank God he was healthy, for I did everything they told me to do but, I knew I never wanted to be in that position again. I am currently 7 3/4 months pregnant, have only gained 12 pounds, have a healthy baby girl inside of me who is in the 91st percentile for her size and weight, have awesomely low blood pressure, rock bottom blood sugars, and feel as though I could run a marathon. The doctors are even amazed and scratching their heads at the difference. Bottom line is that if I had never followed Carnie Wilson through all of her ups and downs, I would not be in this place today, a happier, healthier mother looking forward to the future.

I also had the gastric bypass surgery 2 years ago it was on Dec 19th. I had my daughter back in August. I can't say that I agree entirely with the comment posted before mine when saying she doesn't agree with Carnie's weight gain when she had her daughter. I had lost almost 150 lbs before I had my daughter and I gained 50 lbs when I was pregnant. I'm sure that its not how much Carnie ate that made her gain that weight, it's what she ate. The same with me, I still didn't eat alot when I was pregnant, its what I was craving and what I ate that made me gain the weight and yes I craved Carbs too...your body tells you what you need when you are pregnant and even when you're not. I managed to lose all the baby weight in 4 months. Yes it was hard, but I challenged myself that I could do it and I succeeded at it, its not a easy task for anyone to lose weight, surgery or not. As well as Carnie and lady before me who wrote yes I had the GB surgery to make myself healthier even though I'm young I have delt with my share of problems along the way dealing with being obese as a child and even into my teenage years that I didn't want it to follow me when I entered into motherhood. So, I applaud Carnie for looking amazing before and after having a gorgeous little girl!

I had Gastric Bypass 2 years ago Sept and am now 5 months pregnant. I lost approximately 98 lbs from the surgery and have gained between 8-10 lbs so far. I am not judging Carnie at all, but, though "pouch" has stretched a lot since the Sept 05 surgery, I still can't eat that much. I am hoping to keep my weight gain to 20lbs. I cannot see my self putting on another 50 between now and my May 13 due date. It's just not physically possible. :) I also completely understand her having the surgery prior to be getting pregnant. So much healthier. That is a huge reason for me having GB surgery. I was 37 years old and my biological clock was ticking. I wanted to be sure to have a healthy weight pregnancy and avoid all of the hazards of being morbidly obese and pregnant. So far so good. My blood pressure is awesome. My sugar levels are great and I feel good. Most importantly the baby is growing normally and is very healthy! I am hoping that my pregnancy continues as is...
