Princess Amalia of the Netherlands starts school

Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands, 4, started her first day of school at Bloemcamp school in Wassenaar. She was sent off by parents, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, 40, and Crown Princess Maxima, 36, but sisters Alexia, 2, and Ariane, 8 months, were not present. Amalia is attending an ordinary prep school like her grandmother, Queen Beatrix, did.

Yeah in Holland children are allowed to go to school right after they turn four years old. So she turned 4 last friday and on monday she went to school..

The correct name of the school is “Bloemcamp(school)”.
The correct place is Wassenaar, not The Hague (close though)!

diyou know that Amalia wants to be a princess? Just like a Disney princess with a beautiful long dress and beautiful hair. Her parents told us when they gave a interview. When she went to school her bag was all over Disney princesses.

Also Amalia told her parents that, if you are going to school, than you are a big girl.

She is so cute and she has such lovely parents, who you can see love her so much!

Only somebody who’s living in the netherlands knows that Wassenaar is not an ordinary place, only for rich people, so the conclusion is that she is not going to a normal school.

Wikipedia describes Wassenaar as an affluent suburb and says that the Prince of Orange and Princess Maxima live there. So it sounds like they’re sending her to the free local school, as opposed to sending her to a private (pay) school or having her educated by tutors at home. I don’t think anyone expected them to seek out a poor inner-city school far from their home.

Amalia is adorable and always so poised and cheerful! She looks half like Maxima and half like Beatrix. She always seems so sunny and outgoing. What a good queen she’ll be many years from now.

Sorry Lena, I lived in Wassenaar and it is absolutely not ‘only for rich people’. Just because it is a wealthy town does not mean only posh people live there. The same for the school they sent Amalia too: it is a normal, public school, where every child can attend and where the princess will be treated like any other child. Her parents are very down to earth people who clearly want to raise their three daughters that way too.

That is something great about Holland, every child starts when they turn 4. No holding kids back for advantages, no pushing ahead. When you are 4 you go…..everyone is on the same schedule. Wassenaar is very nice, but not everyone is wealthy.
