Courtney Love laments being a single mom

The challenge of raising a teenaged daughter in the glare of the celebrity spotlight is only magnified when you’re doing it alone, Courtney Love says.  The single mother to 15-year-old Frances Bean, called ‘Franny’ by her mom, says that she and her daughter "get along fine most of the time" but,

Teenagers are hard.  Being a single mom is hard.

Courtney, 43, says that she’s encouraged by the traits her daughter has inherited from both she and her late husband Kurt Cobain, who committed suicide in 1994.

I just want things to be good for her, but she’s a lot like me and a lot like her dad. I think she got the best of both of us, so there’s that.

A recent outing for Frances proved to be a painful reminder of the manner in which she lost her dad, however.  According to Courtney, Frances and a friend hit the streets of London — for the first time without a nanny or bodyguard — to see the new film Control, about the suicide of Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis.  Recalled a tearful Courtney,

I wanted to get her a cake because it is the first time she has gone anywhere on her own…She came back so disturbed, because I forgot what the movie was about.

Frances is Courtney’s only child.

Frances Bean being 15 makes me feel so old.

She looks just like her daddy in that picture.

‘Oh yeah, I forgot what the movie was about’ giggle giggle It’s so hard to be a single mom. Woe is me.

I can’t even say what I want to say to or about her!

I can’t imagine having to raise your late husbands child in public after such an event. Just being a single Mom to my girls after my husband died is bad enough…imagine having the whole world watch and judge every move you made. Courtney Love is not a personal favorite of mine but Frances Bean seems to be a normal teenager and I hope she continues to survive Kurt in an honorable manner.
