Heidi Klum reveals her diaper bag contents

Having three kids the age of three and under means having three of almost everything on hand!  That’s why Heidi Klum’s diaper bag — which has to accommodate the needs of kids Leni, 3 ½, Henry, 2 and Johan, 1 — is probably one of the most jam-packed in Hollywood.  Says Heidi,

I need diapers in different sizes.  There’s always wet wipes, there’s milk, there’s water, there’s goldfish, there’s tons of things you have to bring like bananas. Henry eats three bananas a day. 

As she prepares to navigate toddler-hood times three, Heidi is probably fine-tuning her disciplinarian skills.  The 34-year-old supermodel finds that mixing-up her approach to dealing with problematic behaviors yields the best results. 

I try to be fun, but I also try to be hard in places where I have to be.

As for the biggest surprise of motherhood for Heidi?  Discovering the innate ability of children to remember the most trivial of conversations.   

Sometimes I say something and weeks can go by and all of a sudden that comes out.  I’d forgotten it already, and I’m like ‘why did she just pull that one out?’ They just keep a word or they keep a certain thing and hold onto it. Then all of a sudden, two weeks later, they break it out.

Whoaa.. Three bananas a day! That is entirely too much sugar for a baby/toddler. Also bananas constipate so its not good to eat too many. They are soo cute though, you do see her with her kids often, which is great. She is really down to earth and I am still dumb-strucken by how Britney Spears taught her how to use a diaper and after three kids, Heidi Klum didn’t know there were sticky velcro flaps you kept the diaper on with. Makes me laugh! )

That bananas constipate is news to me and my 2 year old daughter. She eats them all the time and poops several times a day. I can always tell by the color and texture that it is banana. Sorry if that is too much info.

Yes! I am in medical school now and I’ve learned that bananas are very constipating and can actually in time harm the digestive track. Too much potassium is also harmful for the body, your body naturally inhibits potassium to allow nerve function but an influx of potassium can actually cause swelling on the brain. But eating three banans or ten bananas will not do that to you, of course but yes, bananas constipate. I was very surprised when I learned that information. hehe ) And yes, I was being sarcastic about Heidi Klum learning from Britney Spears. Just something that makes me laugh because she actually fooled me when she said that. I thought she was serious at first, talk about being gullible. Love her personality!! )

Yeh I thought woah 3 banana’s a day. Way too much pottassium for a little one. Hasn’t she ever heard of a good old apple much better for teeth as well.
Yes you always see her with her kids, but do you see how many nannies she has trailing behind her? lol I quite believe she has probably never changed a nappy/diaper in her life. And Leni and Henry should be out of nappies by now so should only be the baby she needs to carry stuff for.

Seriously Penny Lane? Henry JUST turned 2. Most little boys I know didn’t train until almost 3 and some even 4.

Let’s focus on our own shortcomings as mothers and try to fix those rather than nitpicking another mom. I’d much rather hear her say she’s giving him bananas than processed fruit snacks, etc.

My little one turned 2 around the same time as Henry. He has been trained since he was 19mths though. I’d have thought Henry would at least be in training, but it seems to be an American thing to leave it quite late from what I have gathered. It wasn’t a dig, just an assumption that she would only need one set of nappies by now.
Yeh fruit is better than processed rubbish I agree, but I think 3 banana’s a day is too much, and I just would have thought with all those nannies one of them would have advised her on this.
Sorry Hedi just slightly irritates me, she comes across all high and mighty.
Much prefer Angelina, she is a real hands on mum.

She cracks me up everytime I hear her tell a story or read some of her comments. I love her sense of humor. I can completely relate with how much you have to pack in a diaper bad when you have more than one little one running around.

Three bananas a day are fine. Laypeople read a study about the negative effects of high potasium (think 30 bananas a day), and the next thing you know, bananas are evil. High Strung Parenting. Relax! She seems happy and relaxed with her children; I’m amazed by her ability to “do it all.”

Why am I not shocked by another post where people are tearing apart another celebrity’s parenting skils? Penny Lane,your comments really bothered me. It’s none of our business how many diapers Heidi has changed or how it’s any of our business how many nannies she has.Can we just not judge someones parenting skills for one day around here?

Not all Americans are slow to potty train. My parents trained me a little after my first birthday and both my brothers had just turned 2 when they left diapers behind. To me, a 4 year old in a diaper is late but with so many little ones I guess I see how that can be put on the back burner.

A 4 yr old with diapers? I think is too much…But i agree that if Henry has just turn 2 maybe he is still using diapers, although, imo, a 2 yr old should begin the potty training before turning three. I don’t know how it works in U.S.A, but here in Italy if your child uses diapers at 3, he can’t go to maternity school (don’t know if it’s the right name, here is “scuola materna”, is the pre-school you go from 3 to 5 years old)
Besides, why wait till your kid is 3 or 4? the potty training is not that difficult, you just need patience…My girl learned to go to the bathroom in one month, and since she was 2 1/2 she sleeps all night without diaper.
Anyway, not all babies are the same…This is just my point of view.

My son is only 14 months so I can’t comment personally as a parent, but in my former career as a nanny, yes, children were expected to be potty trained or on their way when they started school at 3 1/2, but the majority of my boys were still having accidents and wore Pull-Ups when we were leaving the house for long periods until just before or after 3, and two of them weren’t night-trained until after age 4. My girls trained much faster and were typically potty trained by 2 1/2 and night-trained by 4.

I’m hoping to have my son trained on the early side, but I’ve heard boys can be tougher. I need to come to Europe and have you guys help me!

I doubt that Leni isn’t potty trained. Most schools require a child to be at least semi potty trained before they can start. The post doesn’t really specify whether or not Leni is still in diapers. Anyway, I think Heidi is a great mom and I think she is very hands on. Only she knows what is best for her little ones.

Of course you are allowed to have an opinion and comment here. However, others are also allowed to disagree with you and give their opinions as well. Just as you or anyone else may say that Heidi “comes across all high and mighty” based on the interviews she gives someone else could say the same about you or any poster who boasts about how quickly their child was potty trained and judge others based on that. None of us knows what type of effort Heidi has made to get Henry trained. And since it isn’t a problem for Heidi then what is the big deal? One of my nephews didn’t come off of the diapers/pullups until he was two and a half, while my other nephew was potty trained at 17 months. Did we freak out about it or judge their mothers harshly? No. Kids do things at their own pace sometimes so it is totally unreasonable to judge and say one child should do something as personal as potty training in relation to another child. Furthermore, Heidi gives interviews/insight into her life because it is a part of her profession. It is a privilege for us all that she even comments about her kids. Still, I am sure she would be a little put off by the whole process if she knew droves of women were judging her and her parenting skills based off of a couple of pictures and some interviews.

I am definitely one of those mothers who felt really inadequate and bad when reading about a 19mo boy being toilet trained. My little boy is turning two soon and cries every time I put him on the potty, he’s scared and just not ready. I can imagine that Heidi’s kids are probably traveling often, or their parents are gone often, which can also delay training—not that age two is obscenely old to be in diapers. I think it’s normal.

I also agree that if Heidi read some of these comments, she might think twice about talking. I may not agree with the way some of these celebrities raise their kids, but I find it all interesting and want them to keep sharing!

When Heidi was on oprah she mentioned henry just turning 2 and already going to the potty for the first time all by himself, so I believe he is getting potty trained already. He may not be fully potty trained yet, but that’s ok he just turned 2, but I do remember heidi saying how he was going to the potty. And last year when heidi was pregnant with johan, she mentioned leni being potty trained, so I’m pretty sure at 3 1/2 Leni is off diapers. As for what people post here, everybody is entitled to their opinions as long as it isn’t offensive of course, so penny lane is just as entitled to her opinion as anyone else here.

I think we should remember, we all raise our kids the way we feel is best. i also think we dont take into account that different cultures do things different. 3 kids under 4 is a lot to take on, even with help, the help just makes it a bit easier.

Seriously? 3 bananas are extreme? My daughter went through a 2 week stage where she ate like 5 bananas a day. And guess what? She’s still alive and well. How are 3 bananas going to cause some sort of problem in toddlers? If that were true, there would be all kinds of warnings and articles on the dangers of bananas for kids. My god, would you rather he be eating 3 chocolate bars a day? Some of these concerns are a little ridiculous.

My daughter turned 2 two weeks ago.
When we saw the health visitor she said somewhere between the age of 2 and 3 is the ideal time to start potty training. I already had that age in my head and intend to begin potty training her in the near future.
