John Leguizamo has high expectations for daughter

Actor John Leguizamo, 43, wants his eight-year-old daughter Allegra Sky to marry for love, but says it wouldn’t hurt if she married rich.

Every dad who loves his daughter is not going to want her to go with the penniless, slacker, loser, poet, bum, when she could go out with someone who’s successful with a career. They don’t have to be rich but they have to have finances.

You want the best for your daughter –- especially when you come from not having. You don’t want her to go back to not having. You know what that’s going to be like. You want her to better the blood a little bit.

John and his wife, Justine, are also parents to son Ryder Lee, 6.

I agree with John. I doubt if he means that he wants his daughter to be a gold digger, he just wants her to have financial stability in life and yes, I know money doesn’t buy happiness but it is an important factor in our everyday lives. My dad used to tell me and my siblings that at the end of the day, he would be happy if we had (1) our health and (2) financial stability. Which means that first and foremost, he wanted us to make something out of our lives and earn a good living for ourselves. then ideally, marry a good man with ambition and/or success. I used to think that my dad didn’t know what he was talking about until i grew older. Believe me, it makes for a difficult relationship going out with someone on a different level – someone with no ambition to better himself, who can’t afford even a simple trip to the cinema (how can they provide for their family if they can’t take care of themselves and always in debt?). So I totally see where John is coming from.

I understand where he’s coming from and deep down, I’m sure every parent wants the same thing for their kids, even though they may phrase it differently.

Every parent wants the basics for their child, health and happiness – but beyond that, we all want them to have things like an education, health insurance, savings for a rainy day, a roof over their head, etc. These are all things that come with financial stability, even if in mild form. Its not a crime to say that you hope your child has all these things…

I totally agree with John. I’m not a parent yet, but as a 27 year old single woman who’s on her own and supporting herself I most definitely want a man that’s ambitious and that is financially stable. Its not all about money but having it makes life a little bit easier. All parents want the best for their kids especially if they didn’t have that financial stability growing up.

What a joke. He expects his kids to succeed and be financially viable and he gives his son the absolute white trash name Ryder. Sorry John, there will never be a President Ryder, a Supreme Court Justice Ryder or a president of Harvard named Ryder. I guarantee that poor Ryder will turn into the “beatnik poet bum” being derided here.

I essentially agree with what he said. The one thing I would like to add is that he should also focus on that the girl will one day be able to support herself, because SHE has a good education and a good job – the educated, ambitious and financially stable guy should not be the primary goal but more like a bonus.

Whats so bad about marrying a poet? Whats so great about marrying a yuppie?
This was a somewhat ignorant/sexist comment…
