Nigella Lawson says no KFC for her kids

11/14/2007 at 11:02 AM ET

As a busy working mom, Nigella Lawson, 47, says she understands the need for speed when it comes to making meals.  Fortunately, her new cookbook Nigella Express ($23) contains recipes that don’t sacrifice taste for timeliness.  Says Nigella, "there’s no point in doing something fast if it isn’t going to taste good."  Just because she can whip up gourmet meals in a flash doesn’t mean Nigella’s own children — 14-year-old Cosima and 10-year-old Bruno — always benefit from having a superchef as a mom,  however.  Says Nigella,

The number of times they have noodles and broth or pasta and pesto for dinner is embarrassing.  They eat school food [for lunch].  That’s how cruel I am.

It sounds as though Bruno has, at times, taken matters into his own hands however.

My son recently said to me, ‘You have no idea how delicious KFC is.’ And I said, ‘I’m sure you’re right, but I’m not gonna give it to you.’

As for those persistent rumors that she’s expecting a baby with new husband Charles Saatchi, himself dad to a 12-year-old daughter, Phoebe, Nigella denied them, joking that she’s had "stories that I’m pregnant for so long that I must have the gestation period of five elephants."

Cosima and Bruno’s father, journalist John Diamond, died of cancer in 2001.

Nigella is such a babe. I wouldn’t mind being plus sized if I had curves in all the right places like her!

I agree Nigella is a doll. She just exudes a calm confidence and great sense of style.

This story caught my eye over at Mom Blog Network. I’ve always been big fan of Nigella, her cooking and her attitude towards family.

The comment about her being pregnant is funny, too. :)

Nigella is great. I’ve watched all her series and it’s been interesting seeing Cosima and Bruno growing up. Although, with the latest express series, I really want to take a brush to both Cosima (called Mimi) and Bruno’s hair… Both have shaggy, unbrushed, sticking-out-at-all-angles and covering-the-eyes hair that drives me nuts.

47??! I can’t believe that. I thought this woman was in her early thirties, 35 tops! Anyway, she looks great

I can’t believe how grown up her daughter looks; last time I saw her was on Nigella bites and she was a little girl!

I Love the name Phoebe!

Yesterday, I posted a comment about Nigella’s size in response to Jules’ comment that Nigella was plus-sized. I said nothing offensive, used no foul language and my comment is nowhere to be found. Please explain why I am being censored for clearing up someone’s erroneous labeling of what a plus-sized woman really is?
What is the deal?

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
