Geri Halliwell discusses her new abs

Geri Halliwell showed off her newly-taut abs in a promotional ad for the Spice Girls’ upcoming reunion tour. The 35 year old mother claimed she didn’t do much to re-gain her amazing body after having 18 month old Bluebell Madonna; she just walked and drank “loads of water.”

They just pop. I never go on a diet – at all. I go for walks, a little bit of yoga. That’s it. I eat literally every two or three hours.

Geri and the other Spice Girls mommies will show off their bodies for a December 4 performance at the Victoria Secret Fashion Show airing on CBS.

This is rubbish. I’ve seen pictures of her training her butt off with a personal trainer from earlier this year.

- Rudy on

HA – I agree, that is total rubbish. Abs like that take alot of discipine – more than drinking water, going for walks and doing a bit of yoga. She looks great though, so whatever it is she’s doing is certainly working!

- madison on

She’s full of it alright. Sorry, but you don’t get abs like that from “walking and a bit of yoga”. People like her really annoy me because they don’t realise just how damaging this kind of comment can be to someone who’s really struggling emotionally/mentally with her body image, particularly after giving birth. Girl power? I don’t think so.

- Em on

Give me a break. She didn’t have abs like that during her first round as a Spice Girl. So, if that didn’t come naturally in her 20s, how does it magically happen in her 30s AFTER having a baby?

- Stef on

While I agree that it’s not likely that Geri lost all that weight just by drinking lots of water and walking, I do want to point out that it is possible that she has very good genetics. In otherwords, a lot of her weight loss could have been genetic.

That said, to the commentor who mentioned that Geri’s comment could be very damaging to someone struggling with their body image….From what I’ve heard, Geri herself struggled quiet a bit with her body image awhile back. Apparently, she had Bulimia at one point.

Her being a former bulimic could also explain why she doesn’t want to admit to having a personal trainer and things like that. It could be that she isn’t exactly proud of the fact that she hired a personal trainer to help her lose weight.

- Annoynomus on

hah i walk everyday and do lots of yoga and NEVER diet and my abs look nothing like hers. Good for her for looking so awsome but come on!

- morgan on

There are pictures of Geri all over the net working out and running with her ‘giant’ trainer… literally he looks like a giant! She must have forgotten about him… or made the comment sarcastically!

- jenn on

I agree with all the other posters, there is no way you can get abs like that by not dieting and just walking. If that really worked I would look like a rockstar! ;)

- E on

Oh just water and walking my ass. It makes me feel so horrible about the way I look and I work VERY hard!

- barb on

Why should she feel an obligation to explain to any of us when and what she does to get her body.Really, that’s a private matter and if she doesn’t want to go into detail about it, that’s okay.

- Renee on

Walking and yoga might make you lost weight, but you have to WORK OUT to get ABS. They don’t just pop up naturally.

I really have no respect for people like this – lying about what you do to get a good body makes EVERYONE who struggles with self-image that much more self conscious. How does she think it feels to people who have been seriously dieting and working hard to get healthy to hear that she claims she got her body just by “walking and drinking water?” Way to be a role model.

I don’t get why people lie about it either – I mean, you have to work hard for a body like that, why not take pride in your hard work?

- Nicole on

While I think she looks fab, I have to agree with all the other comments. Abs don’t pop up naturally, especially after having a baby!
Come on, Geri!!! Even Victoria Beckham complains about her mid-area after having had three children and three c-sections. And she’s stick thin!!

- Nadège on

I’m sick of anorexic Hollywood power moms. I hope Heidi Klum doesn’t lose too much weight, as I commented on yesterday. Kudos to the Hollywood moms who openly talk about being comfortable in their own skin. That’s what we need to hear about – otherwise it’s just setting back all the women’s liberation work that our mothers did on our behalf.

- Sasha on

I mos def think she isn’t telling the truth! I have been tiny all my life, Im 5 months pregnant and I have only gained about 10 pounds so far. Its Genetics( so I can understand the being tiny part). But I agree abs like those are worked for. There is no way, your stomach is that toned without working out!

- Callen on

Ouch! Do some of you have to be so cruel! Just say you don’t agree…you don’t have to attack her!

- Renee on

Wow…she looks great!

- Poshie T on

There are tons of pics of her with her trainer working out. Sure she drinks water, and goes walking, but for abs like that, you need to do some other stuff too. Sounds so phoney when celebrities lie, especially when you see everyday average mothers who don’t have abs like that from just walking lol. Same way victoria beckham is in shape and so thin from just playing soccer with her kids, like she said on the ellen show recently. I like the honest celebrities like heidi klum, brooke burke, jennifer garner, gwen stefani, etc who admit they obviously watch what they eat and exersice reguarly to get back in shape

- gianna on

@Renee

She has no obligation. But when she is showing them off like in the picutre and in photoshoots, questions come up. Plus GERI COMMENTED so of course there are replies. The title of this post is “geri discusses her abs” so Geri is the 1 starting the convo!

Breastfeeding helps but Geri ( & Mel B) have implants so I’m not sure if they r able to breastfeed.

Julia Roberts says in the Dec(i think) Vanity Fair: “just get your ass moving” & IMO JR is totally right!

- lilkunta on

If it happened naturally why didn’t her genes give her the same ‘popping’ abs before she had the baby? She was curvy when she joined and left the spice girls even after crash dieting and bulimia.

- Lilybett on

i agree there’s no way she maintained that toned stomach without intense working out. i am natrually thin, drink loads of water, walk all the time, and i dont have abs or a toned tum, lol..i know id need to work out to get it, and she’s been pictured working out too tons post-bluebell. i wish people wouldnt be like Keira and Geri and be all ‘its genetics, lucky me, i hardly do anything to maintain this’. that attitude annoys me, just say you worked youre butt off to get it and id respect that because toned abs dont just appear from some brisk walking and water-drinking.

- ella on

She may not have an obligation to tell us how she got her abs and lost her baby weight, but it’s reckless to say she did it with lots of water and yoga. Abs take work.

- Loralee on

I know that Loralee but I’m sorry but some of these responses sound so mean.If she doesn’t want to go into detail about how she got her abs, it’s her business.I’m surprised some of these comments were allowed to be posted. Geri has had an eating disorder before so I doubt she wants girls to have a bad body image.I know a few friends that do have toned muscles and eat everything in sight and never excersie. Also, it’s one statement people, stop acting like women will read it and get an eating disorder just from this one sentence.

- Renee on

Renee,
I would have no problem with her not feeling obligated to tell us her regimine, but she said herself she got those abs by walking, drinking water and a bit of yoga. Don’t lie if you are gonna open you’re mouth to brag about your abs! Tell the entire truth, that you also had a trainer who worked the crap out of you! She cant get mad because we want to know the whole truth because we dont believe the half truths she is telling, that’s all we’re saying! Tell it all not what you think sounds chic and makes it look like you’re so fabulous you did practically nothing to attain such fabulousness!

- Carmel on

So Geri wasn’t entirely truthful, but I’m more alarmed by some of these comments regarding making women feel like crap. WHY are you allowing a quote like this to damage your self-esteem?! Hollywood is a completely different world, and we should take everything that comes out of it with a grain of salt.

What matters is what your husband thinks of you, your friends, your kids, and most of all YOURSELF. Don’t let these random celebs get to you, it’s not worth the energy waste. As women, we need to take pride in ourselves, flaws and all.

- Pam on

“Pam”, that’s great advice, but it’s so much easier said than done…

You must not have self image issues, otherwise you’d understand…

- Tracy on

Of course I do! My thighs and my boobs aren’t what they used to be pre-pregnancy, and I’m not thrilled with it. BUT that doesn’t mean that a comment from a celeb that I don’t know personally and that leads a completely different life from me is going to make me feel horrible about it. If it was my neighbor saying it, it would be a different story. My point was more about people’s investment in the media and allowing it to effect their self-worth.

- Pam on

Carmel, I just think some people are being a tad over dramatic about her statement. If you wouldn’t say it to their face…why post it here? I doubt any of you would go up to her face and call her a liar and blame her ..just her…for making new moms feel bad about their bodies? I doubt it

- Renee on

I think it’s genetics, intense aerobic and anaroebic workouts, a high protien/fibrous carb diet and some kind of chemical supplement(s) that she’s taking under the supervision of her trainer (beefcake guy). Yes, she has every right to get ripped and she does look ripped! But, the people who have objected to her statement are not ‘just jealous’, which is usually the response to anyone who criticizes a celeb. We judge each other by the way we look and dress, esp. for women. Celebs can either rebel against the (brutal) standard of beauty they are expected to adhere to, or they go along with it, some to the extreme, like Geri/Madonna/Posh/Melanie Griffith/Pam Anderson/Katie Price. If I had to be in their shoes I’d have serious inner conflict about the messages I was putting out to my fellow women.

- Sasha on

If she’s not going to ‘fess up to at least having done a crunch or a sit-up, my guess is liposuction. Not that I think that’s a bad thing…

- mother_theresa on

Sorry, but these celebrities have GOT to stop lying! Why is it considered shameful to work out? And yes, it DOES have an impact on the rest of us who have had children and DON’T look like that. Maybe we shouldn’t be affected by it, but many of us are.
It’s come to the point where pregnant celebs will hide out during there last trimester, because they don’t want to be seen when they’re “fat.” Never mind that weight gain during pregnancy is necessary and healthy. It’s like we’re back in the Victorian era, when women were confined and made to stay indoors when they were pregnant, because it was “unseemly” for them to be seen in public.
Give me a break!!!!!
