Keri Russell in Page Six Magazine

August Rush star Keri Russell, 31, appears on the cover and in an inside spread of Page Six Magazine this week in promotion of her new film, in which she plays a mother. The real-life mom to River, 5 months, met the interviewer at an NYC coffee-shop with her son in tow — here are the highlights.

On slings: I love these things! I just don’t understand how people can manage strollers with all the stairs in this city.

On losing her baby weight by nursing: Breastfeeding! It’s miraculous! I mean, within two weeks, you’re like, ‘Whoa, where is everything?’

On toting her son around: I’ll definitely bring him to sets….though I’ve been in denial, thinking I wouldn’t need help, but I guess I will. It’s just the idea of someone else taking care of my kid is so weird to me.

It’s crazy! Friends of mine sent their kid to, granted, a really cool school in California, but it costs 30 grand a semester. For junior high! Do you know how much college costs? Who can afford that? I figure we need to find a full-time babysitter before we start dealing with that stuff. [laughing]

Where are the curls? I’m addicted to straightening my hair. I could have used some hair-dryer action back in the day, to be honest.

She is gorgeous! I wish she would share some tips on how she gets her hair so straight…

Allison, I have curly hair, too. Not as curly as Keri’s, but still pretty curly. I use Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight spray, then flat iron it. The smaller flat iron works best. It is still full, but very straight.

I really like Keri, she seems like such a devoted mother. And I really like that she’s calling her helper, a babysitter, I think the name “nanny” and it’s historical history to it is honestly over-rated. :)

Ugh…I am so jealous of women who have weight pour off from BF’ing! I exclusively breastfed for 6 months and lost very little weight. Now at 18 months I’m only BF’ing about once a day and the weight is finally pouring off of me. I really believe that for some of us BF’ing keeps the weight on, because once I cut down on it the weight really started to come off, and I didn’t change anything else about my diet or exercise routine. So don’t look to BF’ing to be some magical weight loss secret. For some it is and for others it isn’t!
