What a beautiful child!! Such piercing eyes.

But Marmaduke?? I keep thinking of the giant dog in the Sunday funny pages. Still a cute name, but that giant dog keeps popping into my head. Is there another Marmaduke I’m missing??

in my opinion, if you are going to go for kooky names, then name all of the children that way. i think it is quite unfair to give a child a name like Marmaduke, because you know that the child will be picked on. To have siblings with a traditional name like jesse and then a name like Marmaduke, i think can give the child a complex.

Marmaduke? I am sure there is a children’s story about a cat called Marmaduke, he was a ginger cat.

I really think that unique names are great, but personally I use them as middle names, you can call your child by their middle name at home, but they don’t get picked on at school.

I agree, gorgeous child, unfortunate name.

Marmaduke is….interesting but Duke as a nickname is cute! :D He’s a cute kid regardless :)

Nikki on

Hopefully they call him Duke :)

Bear is such an inspiration. He does tons of work for various charities not to mention all of his record breaking accomplishments. He’s a hero. In my opinion there is probably a meaning behind the name that none of us are privvy to. With names like Wolfgang and Pilot Inspecor out there…Marmaduke is rather cute.

@mamabear:
I totally agree with you on the name Pilot Inspector being a little “unusual”.
But Wolfgang is a perfectly normal name in Germany/ Austria. Just think of Wolfgang A. Mozart. And it is still used today. I’ve got 3 “Wolfgangs” in the family, the youngest is 23. But in the English speaking world “Wilf” is probably more common.

I also think that there is a greater meaning behind the name Marmaduke. Would love to hear the whole story behind it.

mamabear, what do you think is so strange about the name Wolfgang? I think it’s very traditional and old-fashioned.

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
