Chef Anthony Bourdain talks about his family
Chef and author Anthony Bourdain, 51, talked about his work, traveling and family life to The Record newspaper. He is married to Italian Ottavia Busia and they have daughter Ariane, 6 months. The decision to have a child surprised his mother Gladys as Tony had promised never to have children, because,
…He didn’t want to be a hostage to fear. And yet he’s so much more confident and so happy in his life and his marriage that he decided he wanted a baby.
He loves spending time with his wife and daughter, but hopes that Ariane won’t take after her father.
I loved it because it was a refuge for misfits. I don’t want my daughter associated with that element. I would prefer if she stayed out of the restaurant business, but there would be some small part of me that would be pleased to see her do that.
But he will keep a keen eye on what she’s eating.
I will be working mightily to make sure this is not a child who will only eat grilled cheese sandwiches with the crusts cut off. As soon as she’s on solid food, she’ll be on a first-name basis with every sushi chef in New York. If she’s healthy and happy and strong-willed, that’s really all I could hope for.
