Rodney Atkins does crazy things when it comes to his daughters wanting to date

10/30/2007 at 07:50 AM ET

Country music star Rodney Atkins, 38, recently sat down and discussed his new single entitled "Cleaning This Gun." The song is based on a conversation between a dad and his daughter’s date, and Rodney can now relate to that with two daughters.

I’m dealing with teenage boys coming around the house now, and I’ve done crazy things like hiding behind the door with a chain saw. I say [the single] is where ‘Country Boy Can Survive’ and ‘Butterfly Kisses’ meet.

Rodney and his wife, Tammy Jo, have one child together, Elijah, 5. The couple is also raising Tammy Jo’s daughters, Lindsey and Morgan, from a previous relationship.

I am a 31 year old married mother of two. I just recently went to see my first concert ever. Rodney Atkins was playing at the Hard Rock Casino in Mississippi. My husband and I were invited by some friends that had two extra tickets. For such a small little concert he still put on a great show as if it was one of his big concerts. I loved his songs, but really never read anything about him until after I seen him in concert. The way he treats his fans(especially children) peaked my curiosity to read up on his background. Now I see why you can tell he is such a kid person and so down to earth. He tried to address and pay attention to every fan in the room. He gave away a whole microphone and stand to a fan there for her birthday. He threw out numerous guitar picks, and passed the mic around to all the children there to sing along with to his song. He was really awesome. He isn’t one of those arrogant celebrities that forgot where he came from, and that makes his music even better. I really wish I would have had my children with me. They would of really enjoyed his performance and his love for kids. If I never get to go to another concert, I will always remember his. And even if I do get to, I am sure his will always be my favorite. He is the all American family man. He shows his love for his wife and his kids. I really respect that. Anyone who hasn’t seen him in concert should because they will gain a great deal of respect for the singer as a man.

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
