Mutya Buena credits daughter for her self-confidence

10/26/2007 at 11:26 AM ET

Former Sugarbabes singer Mutya Buena, 22, credited the birth of her daughter, Tahlia-Maya, with giving her the self-confidence she lacked most of her life.

Mutya, who now enjoys a successful solo career, confessed she led a reclusive lifestyle after hearing criticism about her weight. Mutya challenged the critics after the birth of her daughter in 2005.

I wanted to stay outside the public eye because I was really hurt by what people said about me – that I was too fat or ugly.

Constant talk about my weight hasn’t made me paranoid. I have no issues about it. I don’t care if I’m not skinny – I like a bit of meat on my bones. My weight will never take over my talent.

I don’t see how anyone could think she is overweight. She is very beautiful!

How could anyone say that she is overweight? She is gorgeous! I would absolutley kill to have a body like that. Everyday I see more and more of what a twisted world we live in regarding womens weight. More power to her for not listening to those who think she is overweight. Weight defintely does not define a person.

Mutya overweight? Thats the biggest load of cr*p I have heard in years. She has a killer body. If i had a body like that and people called me overweight i’d laugh in their face!

Late, but I agree with the other posters. I like a bit of meat on bones too, and think it have been a pity to hurt Mutya with false & stupid comments.

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
