Kylie Minogue expounds on baby plans, taking a 'wait and see' approach

10/23/2007 at 11:29 AM ET

Although she has her heart set on starting a family, Kylie Minogue says that the lengths she’s willing to go to have a baby are limited — at least for now.  Still in remission from a 2005 battle with breast cancer, the Australian songstress says the illness is actually what motivates her to become a mom.

Contrary to some reports, I am not having all sorts of weird treatments to try and get pregnant. Instead we will just have to wait and see what the doctors say … I love children.  Always have and always will. But it’s only since my cancer that I have given serious thought to having them.

Kylie is currently single, having split from longtime boyfriend Oliver Martinez earlier this year; Her tenth album, the aptly-named ‘X,’ is slated for a Nov. 26 release.

Kylie’s about to turn 40 and was diagnosed with cancer only a year or so ago – and yet she says she’s only just thought about having kids? Hmmmm, I think declining fertility affects all of us, not just celebs.

I agree if she truly wants a biological baby then she needs to make it her top priority now!! Maybe she is being vague about it because she doesn’t want to get her hopes up?

Triskadeiphobe and Ivey – She has a very good reason for not making having a baby her top priorty now. In the article, she states that she is waiting to see “what the doctor says”. In otherwords, she probably wants to make sure that her doctor thinks that it is safe for her to get pregnant after having had cancer and only being remission for a year so far.

Who knows, because of her cancer, it might be dangerous for her to become pregnant. IMO, it’s a very good thing that she is waiting to hear what her doctor has to say. Also, no where in the article did she state that her goal/dream is to have children biologicaly. All she said is that she is “giving serious thought to having them”. For all we know, she is thinking about having kids via adoption.

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
