TMC Celebrity Mom Confession: Embeth Davidtz

223457a80c

Recently, after my son recovered from a cold, he was in the habit ofwaking up — and staying up — from midnight until 3am. Absolutelyshattered after several sleepless nights, I put a few drops of achildren’s sleeping aid I received from a doctor abroad, in his lastbottle of milk of the day. He slept all night long, the pattern wasbroken, and i was a slightly guilty but a much better rested mother!

I have to laugh at the celebrity confession that you posted.. I’ve been there!! lol. Our 4 and a half year old started waking up around midnight and screaming in his sleep, crying and sleep walking until about 3 or so also. I talked to his pedatrician who said it’s really common for that to happen at his age and he’s doing it out of habit now which is why it starts at the same time every night. He had us give him Benadryl for a certain length of time b/c it made him crash and sleep through the night. He said it would “reset” his sleeping pattern. He was right.. it worked like a charm!! =)

Embeth is lovely and I’m glad to see her on the site. :-)

We attempted giving our children Dimetapp (as suggested by the paediatrician), for a red-eye overseas flight. We were desperate for it to work not only for their sake, but also to leave us some time to eat and rest. Alas, it worked only about an hour or two before they were up again.
I wouldn’t make it a habit by any means, but I think some “help” is needed from time to time especially when it is affecting sleep patterns.

To each his own but even listening to the child’s doctor can be fatal. Be very careful medicating children under 6 with anything containing things for colds and sleep aids. I just read an article today on a 4 month old’s death because the mother listened to the baby’s dr and he was overdosed with dxm. Be careful!!
