Nicole Kidman forbids her kids from getting tattoos at a young age

Actress Nicole Kidman, 40, fears that her children Isabella JaneBella’, 14, and Conor Antony, 12, might be growing up too fast. Recently she had to ban them from getting tattoos,

Bella had a phase of blue hair – luckily that only lasted for a little while. But we recently had a discussion at home about tattoos and I had to lay down some ground rules. My husband [Keith Urban] has tattoos, so obviously I don’t mind them on principle. But I do think you have to be a certain age before you can choose to do something as permanent as that, and I don’t think that age is 14 or 15. Call me old-fashioned, if you will.

Father of Bella and Conor is ex-husband actor Tom Cruise, 45.

I have 5 tattoos myself and I completely agree with Nicole. 14 or 15 is way too young to get a tattoo.

I agree with her too. That’s something that should be given a lot of thought to and be very personal.

14 or 15 is way to young.

Does anyone know if the kids are living with her now?

I don’t think that she’s old-fashioned for not giving her 14- or 15-year-old permission to get a tattoo… that’s an eighth grader or freshman in high school, right?

I would think that what many people consider to be cool (and cool enough to tattoo on their body) at the age of 14 is quite different than at the age of 40 or 50. After all, it can’t be washed away like the blue hair dye Bella tried!

Yes Colleen she has had the children for at least six months or more.I agree with her also on the tattoos they should be of age to give them time to mature.

I remember when i was 16 i got a tattoo in which i now regret having I SHOULD HAD LISTEN TO MY MOM. I agree with her

I totally agree with Nicole, and I’m glad she is able to set rules for her children (as she should).
I hope she gets to spend a lot of time with them since it seems like they are primarly always with Tom.

Just curious, how do you know that Nicole has had the kids for 6 months?

- Alison on

That’s not being old fashioned – that’s just using common sense.

Well I was 14 when I got my first tattoo. I ended up with a small rose on my ankle. By the time I was 17 I had 4 tattoos. I haven’t gotten any since, I’m now 24. I don’t regret any of them. They’re all very small. My mom said that as teens we could of been doing a lot worse (i.e. drugs, drinking, sex, etc) and a little tattoo wasn’t going to encourage bad behavior. My brother, mother and I all now have tattoos and we’re completely happy with them. It’s really a parents decision but eventually your kids are going to do what they want to do in the future. If I have kids one day I’ll certainly let them get one because if not I’d be a hypocrite. However the rule will be that they have to pay for it on their own (like I did and of course be older then 14).

She should have Bella do what a friend of mine did – she wanted a tattoo before she turned 18 and her mom told her to get a henna tattoo first to see if she really wanted it. It’s like a practice tattoo.

- Jenn on

I got a henna and it only made me want the real thing even more!!! ;)

that’s common sense!
I won’t let my kids get anything like a tatoo until they are of legal age.
piercings can be easily removed… but tatoos are forever.

Even with piercings… only if they are responsible enough to take care of it.

I completely agree w/ Nicole. Curious if there has been any word how the Cruise/Kidman’s are going to work out the reshoot schedule of Tom’s movie in Germany? If the children’s school and school activities (soccer, baseball, basketball, etc.) are in Beverly Hills, just curious how they will work it out.
