Kerryn McCann in remission; gives update on son
Australian runner Kerryn McCann is in remission according to reports. We first announced that the 40-year-old had been diagnosed with breast cancer while pregnant with her third child, son Cooper Patrick.
At 31 weeks pregnant, Kerryn went in and had a lump removed from her right breast, but delayed chemotherapy until after her son was born.
The surgeon was confident he got it all and he was right. It’s fantastic news.
Cooper was born six weeks early so that his mom could undergo chemotherapy. Despite the premature labor, Kerryn couldn’t have asked for it to go smoother.
Although he was induced, it was a beautiful natural birth. Cooper let out a big cry straight away, which was so reassuring.
Despite weighing a little over 5 pounds when he was born, Cooper is doing well today.
At 2.4kg, he was a big premmie and even though the tubes and monitors he was hooked up to in the beginning scared us, he’s a perfectly healthy baby who’s put on heaps of weight ever since.
Kerryn and her husband Greg also have two other children — son Brenton, 10, and daughter Josie, 4 this month. The birth of their new son and brother couldn’t have helped the family more during Kerryn’s illness.
He is the good news after so much bad. Meeting our little boy for the first time was special.
